Windows 7 GPO network drive issue
I'm having problems connecting to our network shares at our office. All the Xp machines work fine, but our 7 machines do not. I see this question asked here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7network/thread/a86e6ddd-17f9-4eb9-b8d0-3756ecf2f00c/#c93f8aba-c6b8-437e-a735-5cbaa31117fd I could not locate the answer provided in that thread. I also found some research on editing secpol.msc to accept more/different LAN settings, but while I can open it, I cannot change the value. I've tried all kinds of troubleshooting-including WMI filters in active directory. I tried to change the local security settings in secpol.msc, but it did not allow me to, even as administrator. I know there has to be a solution for large enterprise deployments. Help?

Hi, Is there any error message when trying to access the network shared folder from Windows 7 machine? Is so, please post it here for research. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Please adjust the sharing settings on the Windows 7 client: 1) Go to “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings”. 2) Under “File sharing connections”, select “Enable File Sharing for Devices that Use 40 or 56-bit encryption”. 3) Under “Password protected sharing”, select “Turn off password protected sharing”. 4) Save the changes above. 2. Try adjust security setting on the Windows 7 client: 1) Click the Start Button, type "gpedit.msc" (without quotation marks) and click OK. 2) In the "Group Policy" window, double click on "Windows Settings" under "Computer Configuration". 3) Double click on "Security Settings"-> "Local Policies"-> "Security Options" 4) In the right panel, double click on the "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level", please select "Send LM & NTLM Responses". 5) Click Apply and OK. Then reboot the computer and see if you can access the share folder from the Windows 7 computer with UNC (\\computer\folder or \\IP Address\folder). Hope this helps. Thanks. I was able to complete the first one but did not find "Password Protected sharing". The only error messages I receive are when I run gpresult from command line, it says "the gpo object was not applied because it is empty". I'm not sure what's happening, because one or two of our scripts work but the rest don't, and it's intermittent. I've tried isolating what settings the working scripts have versus the non-working ones, but haven't been able to figure it out. For #2, I tried to change the setting but it's "grayed out" and will not let me. Is this some top level setting that I can't override? It's the same in secpol.msc. Here is a screenshot: screen

Hi, This issue can occur if the user account does not have enough permission to configure the policy or the policy is protected in domain. I suggest you involve the domain administrator and configure the policy in Server side. Meanwhile, I would like to share you the following article to map the network drive via Group Policy. Mapping a Network Drive Fails Thanks, NovakPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I appreciate your response, but I believe involving the domain administrator is unnecessary at this point- several other departments have machines running Windows 7, and all of the scripts work fine. I also know how to map a drive with group policy, we have several different network maps running for different security groups on our XP machines without issue. I have a feeling it would work if I could change the security setting mentioned earlier in gpedit/secpol.msc , but it will not allow it.
