Windows 7 Freezes and eventually, wont launch at all.
Originally, this started with just a window would freeze after ever other click. This freeze would eventually crash every program i had open. Then after trying the "chkdsk /r" command, it didnt fix. Then i tried Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool. This didnt help at all either. Now it has progressed to not even launching windows 7 at all. I get to the "Starting Windows" screen, and it either freezes completely, or after a while flashes a blue screen. It has progressed even worse, to not getting passed a screen that shows the hardware on my motherboard, and if it gets passed that, it will start up windows recovery, which freezes as it reaches "attempting to fix errors". Someone please tell me how to fix this, or how i can at least restore my computer.

Hi, When you say Chkdsk /r (really should use chkdsk /f /r) did not fix the issues do you mean it showed errors or showed no errors yet did not help? This certainly sounds like hardware so you probably should check with a real computer shop (not leeks and peeks at a Best Buy or other Big Box Stores) or the System Maker's Support. ================================================================= If disk issue are suspected : (since you can't boot use the manufacturer's utility) Disk issues can get serious very quickly so I would thoroughly check the drive now and be sure to keep redundant backups of your important data (use several methods). Inside Windows - Regular or Safe Mode (repeatedly tap F8 as you boot). Run checkdisk - schedule it to run at next start and then Apply OK your way out then restart. Hi, If the issue is NOT disk related or hardware this troubleshooter "might" help. You can try some of these in Safe Mode - repeatedly tap F8 as you boot. If you do not have a Windows 7 disk you can borrow a friends as they are not copy protected. Your System maker will also sell the physical DVD cheap since you already own Windows. Also you can make a repair disk on another computer. Try Startup Repair - (If at ANY point you gain some but not full access to Windows come back and try Startup Repair again.) Hi, If needed and the hard drive is at all viable these may help to recover the data. The hard drive can be put into another computer as 2nd drive (best) or into an External USB case. Either would allow you to copy the data to removable media such as CD, DVD, or other USB drives. Or you could use an Ubuntu boot CD to back up the data. Hi, Sounds like hardware. Try a Windows boot disk and StartUp Repair just in case. And try using the Linux disk to backup the drive. If those boot fail the drive itself is the issue though other hardware can also be involved. Hope this helps.Rob Brown - Microsoft MVP <- profile - Windows Expert - Consumer : Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.

Hi, You can try booting with the Linux Ubuntu CD to see if the drive is accessible at all, it may have failed. Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from Your Dead Windows Computer http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer OR boot with a Windows Disk and in the Command Prompt issue these one at a time and Hit ENTER after each. bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot bootrec /scanos bootrec /rebuildbcd Sometimes using EasyBCD works when other methods do not. Recovering the Vista or Windows 7 Bootloader from the DVD http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Vista+Bootloader+from+the+DVD Recovering the Vista Bootloader with EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Vista+Bootloader+with+EasyBCD Repairing the Windows Vista Bootloader http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Repairing+the+Windows+Vista+Bootloader If EITHER bootrec or EasyBCD works then run StartUp Repair Twice from the Vista Boot Disk, run once and then reboot and run again. ================================================================ To boot with a CD or DVD : Setup/Settings (BIOS/CMOS) often F2 as you boot so watch the screen for keys - set boot order to CD/DVD first. Remember to set back as it was after using the methods above. Hope this helps.Rob Brown - Microsoft MVP <- profile - Windows Expert - Consumer : Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.

Hi, Try to unplug everything except the power and the keyboard. Then restart the computer, insert your Windows 7 boot DVD, try a In-place upgrade. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate: 1. If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now. 2. If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, Click Start, click Run, type Drive:\setup.exe, and then click OK. Note Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive. Click Install now. 3. When you reach the Which type of installation do you want? screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the current operating system to Windows 7.
