Windows 7 Firewall / Network problem
I have a Windows 7 64 bit system. I started having network connectivity issues (only able to connect with limited connectivity). Action center show Firewall is off. When I try to restart, I get messahe "can't change some of your settings - 0x8007042c". When I try to start Windows Firewall service, I get "can't start error 1068". I tried to run repair.bat from previous post, but dcomlauncher config failed with "access is denied" (run as administrator). The network location awarenerss sevice is stopped, when I try to restart get "terminated with service specific error 1073741288). Any help gratefully appreciated as I have been with out my work PC for 2 weeks.

Hi, Since there are several issues on the machine, to avoid confusion, I suggest you focus on the network issue first. Regarding other issues, please create a new thread when the first issue is resolved. Here are some suggestions to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Bypass the router or switcher and connect to cable modem directly for a test. Does the error message persist? 2. Upgrade the NIC driver and connect to Internet again. 3. Restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking and check whether Internet can be accessed. If the issue persists, please type "Ipconfig /all" in command console and post the result here for research. Thanks, Novak

I've searched all over the place for an answer.

Same troubles, accidently lost all network connectivity, both Ethernet&WLAN. NLASVC died with -1073741288, DHCP client with ID 50038 'error DHCPv4 initialisation. Code 0x5', and firewall BFE service also with 0x5 error code. Booting to parallel XP system found NIC&TCP/IP operating normally. What is NOT helped: netsh winsock reset netsh interface ipv4 reset secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose nic driver update (from windows-supplied to BCM-supplied) Faced to reinstall.
