Windows 7 File Transfer Problems
Hello All, I am experiencing problems uploading files from multiple windows 7 machines to multiple windows server 2008 boxes on my network. One machine running W7 Ult 64 is experiencing the problem constantly with all servers running windows server 2008 (including web, std, ent). Two other machines, one W7 Ult 64 and one W7 Pro 64, are experiencing the problem sporadically with the same servers. This problem does not occur with any windows server 2003 or windows server 2008 R2 box on our network. This problem seemed to have begun within the past month or two. We have at least three other W7 Ult 64 and three W7 Pro 64 machines on our network that have not experienced the problem yet. All of our machines have the same applications, the only difference between them is the windows updates. The machines that have continued to work have not been updated since before the middle of march. I have gone through and tested all cabeling, have updated and restarted all servers (including both domain controllers and DHCP server), rebooted switches and access points, and have repaired and rebuilt all network pairings client side and switch side. The problem still resides. What is happening is that when i transfer a file that is larger than say 30-40 MB up to a share on a window server 2008 box, it will bring up the file transfer window and say calculating for time remaining, items remaining, and speed. Nothing ever happens after this point, but it does not lock up the machine or explorer. I have left transfers going for weeks with no result. When you browse to the location on another machine it appears the file has been uploaded although nothing is apparent on the troubled computer. However all files that are transferred are corrupted. If you select cancel on the original troubled computer it tries to cancel but does nothing. The computer does not lock up and you can still transfer files on the computer as long as they are not above 30-40 MB, but it does rendered the file which was used for the attempted transfer useless as its tied up being used. The only way to remove the file transfer window is to reboot the computer, however 90% of the time the computer will not shutdown as it hangs at the logging off window. Has anyone else been experiencing these problems? Or have any insight as to what the problem may be? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi, TCP Chimney Offload is available in all versions of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. Both TCP/IPv4 connections and TCP/IPv6 connections can be offloaded if the network adapter supports this feature. So my suggestion is that please disable all of the “Offload” features by changing the registry on your server and your client. 1. Run the following commands on both the client and the server to disable NIC offloading. netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled 2. Modify the following registry key to disable netDMA on the client and the server. Please backup your registry before modify. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\EnableTCPA Note: If this registry entry does not exist, right-click Parameters, point to New, click DWORD Value, type EnableTCPA, and then press ENTER. Value: 0 You can also refer to the reference http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951037 Note that: After disabling these registry, please reboot your server and your client to see if the issue persists. If the persists, I suggest you may capture the Network package via NetMon, then we can analyze the problem deeply: 1) Download NetMon3.4 from the following website and install it on the computer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=983b941d-06cb-4658-b7f6-3088333d062f 2) Launch NetMon3.4 on the both client and the server. 3) In the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4 window, click Create a new capture tab … 4) In the new tab, select all the Network Adapters in the Select Networks window. 5) Then, switch to Network Monitor, press F5 to start NetMon. 6) Try to upload a file (>40M) to the sever. 7) Go back to the NetMon window and press F7 to stop the NetMon. 8) Press Ctrl+S to save the Netmon file named test. 9) Compress these files and upload the files via SkyDrive ,and post a link here.
