Windows 7 Enterprise not talking to IPP Printer
I have an IPP Printer set up under Fedora 15 being served successfully to 2 Windows XP systems and one Windows 7 Home Premium 64 (Service Pack 1) system using a defined network port of http://ip.ad.re.ss:631/printers/HP_Photosmart_C4100_series. When I try and set up the same printer under Windows 7 Enterprise 64 (Service Pack 1) it appears to see the printer, as it asks me to select the printer vendor and type, but after it indicates I have successfully set up the printer I cannot print anything to it. After viewing some online articles, I deleted the network print queue, attached the printer directly (it's a USB printer) and was able to print. I left that queue defined, reconnected the printer to my Fedora server and redefined the queue to Windows 7 and still cannot print. Steps I took to define the printer: 1. In "Devices and Printers", selected "Add a printer" 2. Selected "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer" 3. Stopped the search and selected "The printer I want isn't listed" 4. Used the "Select a shared printer by name" button and entered: http://ip.ad.re.ss:631/printers/HP_Photosmart_C4100_series 5. The "Connecting to..." window showed up followed by the add printer wizard that asked me to select the manufacturer and model of my printer, I selected "HP" and the "HP Photosmart C4100 series" 6. I then got a window saying I had successfully installed the printer. 7. I clicked "Next" and got another window telling me I had successfully installed the printer and offering me the option to make it my default printer and also to send it a test page. The test page did not print. Attempts to print from other programs do not print as well nor does the Windows 7 system indicate anything is in the print queue. I have looked at firewall settings on both ends but found nothing to block this traffic. Is there some patch I am missing on the Enterprise end that is already on the Home Premium system that allows it to work? TIA

Hi, As a test, you can click to clear the Render print jobs on client computers check box on the Sharing tab of the Printer Properties dialog box for the printer. If this persists, please try to use process monitor to capture the details of print process. The Sharing Tab of the Printer Properties has nothing in it -- certainly no option to clear print jobs from client computers. I need to state that the Windows 7 system is a CLIENT, not a server. The printer is being served by my Fedora system. I have downloaded the Process Monitor and will try to use it to capture some more information. Any pointers you can give on how to use it for this would be appreciated.

The process Monitor is pretty useless -- I can't figure out what processes to trace or get meaningful input from it. I did find the event viewer which gives me th following information when I try to print anything (personal information altered): - System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-PrintService [ Guid] {747EF6FD-E535-4D16-B510-42C90F6873A1} EventID 372 Version 0 Level 2 Task 26 Opcode 12 Keywords 0x8000000000000840 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2011-08-12T22:26:02.705125900Z EventRecordID 52 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 1708 [ ThreadID] 6740 Channel Microsoft-Windows-PrintService/Admin Computer XXXXXXXX.XXXXXXXX.XXXXXXX.XXX - Security [ UserID] X-X-X-XX-XXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXX - UserData - PrintOnProcFailedEd Param1 Test Page Param2 userid Param3 \\http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:631\HP_Photosmart_C4100_series Param4 NT EMF 1.008 Param5 327680 Param6 0 Param7 1 Param8 0 Param9 \\SYSTEMNAME Param10 0 Param11 The operation completed successfully.
