Windows 7 Easy File Transfer
Is it ok to use Windows 7 Easy File Transfer on the same machine you are upgrading to 7? I have a Dell Optiplex GX745 and I had Windows XP on it and I installed Easy Transfer for XP on my machine and transferred my settings up to a network and was prompted to put a password in which I set and still have the password. I then formatted this same computer with a 7 Enterprise disc and now when I run the Easy Transfer program I get prompted for a 6 digit key which I don't have.Is this Easy Transfer program only good for working with two computers and home usage? Am I not going to be able to migrate my settings down from the network? I guess I thought this program was similar to the File and Settings Transfer wizard in XP. I'm stuck.Brother's and Sisters all Rise!

Mike I only used the WET once, but I think that you must use the WET off the win 7 dvd to do thisthe WET from XP does work on win 7...I THINK THIS IS THE CASE....

There is ALWAYS a way, we just need to figure it out.How about you install XP mode http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspxrestore to that there use the WET off the DVD to do it again. If your PC does not support the hardware then use http://vmlite.com/ to run the XP mode.

There's a free utility here called Migrecover.exe that will recover .mig files which I am trying now which runs at a command prompt.http://www.visser.com.au/blog/migrecover-for-microsofts-windows-easy-transfer/Syntax:MigRecover.exe <source MIG file> <destination path> [password]Where:<source MIG file> - the full path to the MIG file you need to recover files from<destination path> - the path where the tool should unpack the recovered files[password] - the password used to encrypt the store (if any)I get a bunch of files that come up in this format 1(corrupt)-3857(corrupt) all are 0 bytes. Not sure if this is going to work. Brother's and Sisters all Rise!

Actually I copied the 8 gig SaveData.mig file down to my desktop and clicked on it. The Easy Transfer wizard is running now and I typed in my original password. Brother's and Sisters all Rise!
