Windows 7 Display setting are not keeping
Hello i've been using windows 7 since its release. When we ran a new install of windows 7 it worked great. Afterwards i connected a second monitor to the tablet laptop and it does not keep the settings no matter how many times i change the settings. So here are the symptoms, when the machine boots up it displays everything as it should on two monitors. but after a few seconds of logging in it reverts the resolution to a lower resolution and it turns off the second monitor, y this i mean the screen go black and the monitor enters sleep mode. Here are the trouble shooting steps i have taken so far, i have updated all drivers for the video card to the latest, which is what caused the system to now revert to a lower resolution. I have changed the monitor settings to extend desktop and applyed and click ok. i have checked the registry, i have checked the drivers again, i have looked and changed the advanced settings in the display properties and yet it keeps reverting every time. I do need to get this resolved as the productivity for me and been decrease. Everytime i have to restart the tablet i have to re-adjust the display settings everytime to get both monitors working and the resolution. Assistance is much appreciated.

Hi, First, please let me know if there is any other power management software in use. Please update the chipset (motherboard) and bios to test. Please create a new user account to test the issue. If the issue persists, please reboot the computer in issue in Clean Boot and Safe Mode to determine the possible cause. If it works fine in Clean Boot, the root cause can be the third party software. If the issue reoccurs in Clean Boot, but works fine in Safe Mode, the cause can be the incompatible hardware drivers. You may narrow down the causes in Device Clean Boot. Device Clean Boot ================= 1. Click Start, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter. 2. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers". 3. Right click on your sound card and then click "Properties. 4. In the dropdown menu of Device Usage, please choose "Do not use this device (disable)" and click OK. 5. Please use the same method to disable other dubious hardware such as: internal modem, network card and CD-R drive. Please note some devices such as video adapter are not available to be disabled. ok i tried a boot into safe mode and it was still happening. i have not doen the clean boot as i have limited time with the machien since this machine belongs to the CEO of the company so he is always using it. I will try a clean boot ASAP. i have tried to disable all services that are not required via msconfig. same issues arise like i said i will try to do the clean boot and i'll return to post as soon as i can try that.

I am having the exact same problem. I have tried every single solution proposed above. None of them work. I have 2 monitors connected to a Dell Optiplex 980. My main monitor is right in front of me, then I have a secondary monitor to my right. When I load the computer, everything always looks fine and both monitors look fine. Except, every time I load the computer, the center monitor then goes off and the right monitor becomes the only active one, with the start menu, icons, etc. Then I have to load my control panel, extend my desktop, and make the center monitor the main monitor. Every time. This is really, really frustrating and it is not a problem I ever experienced with Windows XP. Could you please let me know what I should do? I have tried all of the suggestions above already. Rgards, Scott

I have identical problem - brand new Dell Inspiron with single monitor. Set resolution & machine keeps it for a while (thru several "sleep" cycles) but then seems to revert back to default low-res setting. Not a computer wizard, so I'm not fooling with registry or anything like that & risk messing with other stuff. All my other machines automatically detect monitor & optimize setting for resolution & no. of monitors - figured since Win7 is latest & greatest that this feature should have carried forward. Machine is brand-new & does not have anything installed or connected other than MS office & a wireless link, so don't think that's an issue (based on above recommended corrective actions). Recommend that you guys do a service pack or something like that to correct this defect. Was thinking of upgrading my XP machine to Win7 to accommodate latest AutoCad, but holding off until this problem is resolved. Thanks & Happy Easter!
