Windows 7 Desktop will not connect to all computers on XP network
I just upgraded my Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional, now I see the various computers, Vista, XP, W2k, etc on the network, and can even get into the HD of some of those computers. The main computer I need to access, however, is an XP where I get the message: "\\Computer is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact admin, etc. The referenced account is currently locked out and may not be logged onto." I know the first part of that question has been referred to by others, but it is the last line. My network administrator added my username\password to an XP computer and it accessed the Access database on the main network computer just fine. So I think that the issue is with my Windows 7. This is quite frustrating, because the administrator knows nothing after XP so I have to figure this one out. I have a 32-bit Athalon 64 X2 Dual core 5200+

Just a thought, is there any third party firewall like ZA on the xp rig? If there is uninstall it for the time being. Lastly try accessing the xp network through it's IP, try the following by going to start>run and type CMD, under cmd prompt next type ipconfig /all, there's show the IP of the xp rig, next go to the win 7 rig and type the following under run \\192.167.0.XXX Hope the above helps

I just found out more that will help you help me. The computer I am trying to access is a Windows 2000 Server. All of the XP computers I can get onto, but some are W2K Server. Somehow, that (according to my friend) is where the problem lies. I have a username/password, but it doesn't seem to recognize them. Would I do what you are suggesting, still? Secondly, when you say access the sp network through the IP, is that FROM the W7 computer?

I suggest that you temporary disable the firewall on the Windows 7 computer. If the issue persists, please try to change the NTLM authentication level. Network security: LAN Manager authentication level Please change the level to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated in group policy.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I run into a similar problem trying to network w7 with windows 2000. I found this suggestion in another post. "1. Run the registry Editor and open this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LSA 2. Look for DWORD value named LmCompatibilityLevel 3. Set the value to 1, it will be set on 3. 4. Reboot This corrected my problem. I hope it solves yours.
