Hi,I am having problems with windows 7 built in search. I'm trying to set it up where it only searches my Outlook 2007 emails. I have deleted and rebuilt the search index catalog, tried creating a new Outlook profile but it just won't work. I've made sure that my Outlook profile shows up withing the "included locations" but when I click on the rebuild button, it never does anything. It looks like it tries to index but then it says complete with 0 items indexed.Any help would be highly appreciatted.Thanks.

Ok, I'm confused ;) Windows 7 isn't going to find any emails, Outlook 2007 program searches and finds your emails. Can you explain a little more exactly what you're trying to find? If you go to the control panel and you choose indexing options, in there is where I have my outlook profile setup so that it can index my emails. The way I would search for emails is to click on the start button (more like the circle looking thing at the bottom left hand side) and in the "search for programs and files" I would enter key words pertining to specific emails that I'm looking for in outlook. This feature was working fine and it suddenly stopped working. In outlook, if you go to tools > options >search options, in there I have everything checked and it's still not working. I have also tried running the fixmapi under windows > system32.

I suggest you open Index Options from Control Panel, then click Advanced, click the File Types tab. Make sure that ost is checked. If the issue persists, please temporary disable the anti-virus and check the result again. Arthur Xie - MSFT

I was able to fix the indexing problem by re-installing the windows search feature in windows 7. Go to the control panel > programs and features > Turn windows features on or off > uncheck "Windows Search" > reboot your pc then re-add the feature and reboot again. That should do it.
