Windows 7 DOS
Hello, I have a Gateway PC with Windows 7. Last week my PC contracted a virus. I have tried everything to kill the it. I have used the debugging program, system repair, system recover, system restore, command prompt with scannow, basically every function located under F8. Now my computer runs in Safe mode, safe mode with networking, but not in regular mode. When I log in in regular mode, I get the welcome sign but the screen is just black. My auntie who works with computers says I should try to run the computer in DOS mode. Is this the correct action for this problem? If so, how do I do it without being in regular mode. Please help me.

Hi firehuntress, Thanks for the post! Follow these steps to check if you can enter into the Normal Mode. 1. Click Start, input msconfig in the search box, then press enter. 2. Click Seletive startup, uncheck load startup items. 3. In the services tab, click Hide all Microsoft services, then disable the left services. 4. Click Apply and OK. Now restart the computer to check if it works. If you can enter into the Normal Mode now, follow the guide here to find the culprit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 In addtion, update the BIOS and graphic card driver to the latest one. Hello, My auntie who works with computers says I should try to run the computer in DOS mode. Unless something's been lost in translation, this statement hasn't really made sense for several decades. Does your Auntie work with modern computers? -Noel

Use another computer and visit Avira.com. There is a free .iso download to make a bootable cd which will run and scan the hard drive before Windows starts and remove the malware before it blocks any applications. You'll find many things apparently missing, files, and bookmarks, but they are still there. The user profile will be corrupted. I hope you have a complete pc backup or data backups because it seems like a reinstallation is in your future.
