Windows 7 Creash -- Find Solution Disappears -- How to Do Problem Determination
Windows 7 Ultimate with all Critical PatchesThe system was left logged in last night and appearently blue screened this morning. When I logged back in with an administrative id I got the popup window asking if I wanted to search for a solution. The first thing I did was to try and look at the wer-...xml file that describes the system. Unfortunately, double clicking on it gives a blank IE screen. Trying to open it in notepad fails because I didn't have permission to view the file. I finally copied it to a FAT drive and viewed it there. (Had to respond to the you must be an administrator to do this prompt).I then went back a clicked on the find solution button and the popup shrank and disappeared. The system event log does not have any warnings, errors or critical event entries for twenty hours before the crash. The last system event log information message before the crash was: The Multimedia Class Scheduler service entered the stopped state and that was over an hour before the crash. The system is on a UPS and thereisn't any indication of power problems in the UPS log.How do I do problem determination?
