Windows 7 Compatibility with Cisco 2600 router and Cisco 2950 Switches
I have a 19 computer network with a Cisco 2600 router and two Cisco 2950 switches. When the computers were running Windows XP PRO and Windows 2000 PRO. Everything worked fine. I then converted ten of the computers to Windows 7 PRO, 32 bit. Thw XP and 2000 computers have no problem seeing ALL (Windows 7, XP and 2000) computers on the network. However the Windows 7 computers sometimes finds the computers on the network and sometimes dont. The network is configured as a "work" network and the Windows firewall appears to be configured correctly. When the the Windows 7 computers find all the computers, IE8 can connect to the internet. When Windows 7 does not find computers on the network (the network window is empty and 0 items is displayed at the bottom), IE8 cannot go on the internet. A Windows 7 computer may work for a while and then stop. Rebooting may or may not restore operation. If I click on "See Full Map" while the computer is not finding any computers on the network, the Windows 7 computer shows the interconnection of router, the two switches that have Windows 7 computers connected, and only the Windows 7 computers. When the Windows 7 computer sees all computers the "See Full Map" shows intrconnection as above and shows all the XP ans 2000 computers at the botton with a note stating that it cannot find the interconnections. This problem has been frustrating me for a while, especially the fact that the Windows 7 computer may appear to be working and the suddenly stop. Does anyone know if Windows 7 is compatable with the Cisco router and switches? The are NOT listed on the Windows 7 Compatability page. I'm getting to the point where I am considering switching back to XP for these computers. I hesitate due to the work involved (reloading and configuring all the programs on each computer. I would appreciate any help you can give. Al Geigel
