Windows 7 Clients having major issues with SBS 2003 Domain
I have a network with about 20 Windows XP machines, no issues. However, If I plug a Windows 7 machine in, it gets a DHCP address, CAN PING the workstations and server (by IP address ONLY), but that's it. NO INTERNET outside the firewall. NO RDP to the server. NO DNS. NOTHING. Can't join to domain. Here's what's REALLY WEIRD. If I am outside our firewall, and VPN in, it works just fine. I was able to join the domain and log in normally. It only doesn't work on the LAN. We don't use VLAN's or any type of QoS on our LAN. I believe it's just a Linksys/Netgear switch. Any ideas on why it would do this?

Compare the DHCP client settings between the XP and Win 7 computers. Are they the same? Feel free to post the output from both machines, IPCONFIG /all. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. According to the your description, I propose the following options for you: 1. What is the edition of Windows 7? Only Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate can join the domain. 2. Check the TCP/IP settings on Windows 7 clients machine, ensure the DNS is configured as the server’s IP address. 3. Check the SRV records on DNS Server, I suggest you can manually create SRV for Windows 7 machines. 4. Temporarily disable Firewall and see if Windows 7 machine can join the domain. Meanwhile, you can post to the SBS forum to troubleshoot your issue. Small Business Server Regards, Alex Zhao TechNet Subscriber Support in forum.
