Windows 7 Cannot connect to Primary DNS
hi guys, need your help again. i got windows 7 pro 32 bit. It shows that it cannot communicate with the Primary DNS. I had tried every possible solution i found on the web but to no avail. Steps i tried: netsh int ipv4 reset, disable and enable the network adapter. And worst i tried to do a system restore to an earliest point but still back to square one, primary dns problem. Any ideas guys, really need your help. Thanks in advance.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "cannot communicate with the Primary DNS"? Are there other computers on the local area network that are working? Can you post the results of the IPCONFIG /ALL from the Windows 7 computer?Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

hi JM, thanks for the reply. I got a ADSL Modem router, in which there are 4 computers connected to it, 2 computers are working fine but 2 computers are having same problem. When I let windows to diagnose the problem, it shows the above error. Cannot communicate witht the Primary DNS. All ipconfig settings are the same with the other two PC's which are working fine. Any ideas? I had tried every possible means, I can think of and those advises which i find by searching the web but it really doesn't help. Thanks, again for your reply. Please help.

It would be helpful if you compare the TCP/IP settings on the four computers. Simply run IPCONFIG /ALL from a command prompt. If you can post the results of one that is working and one that is not, that would be helpful as well. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Hi, I suggest you manually assign the static IP addresses and refer the DNS setting to the IP address of your router to test the issue. Assign a Static IP Address ================= 1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 2. Right click on the connection that you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties". 3. Click “Continue” button to verify the administrator permission. 4. Click to select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)", and then click "Properties". 5. Select “use the following IP address”. Manually set “IP address” (According to the router IP address pool, for example: if your router IP address is 192.168.1.1, we can type the IP address as 192.168.1.22, if the router IP address is 192.168.0.1, we should type in 192.168.0.22) Manually set “Subnet mask” as 255.255.255.0 (Note: we can use this address as the default subnet mask) Manually set “Default gateway” (Note: Default gateway is the IP address of your router) Manually set “preferred DNS server” (Note: Preferred DNS server also is the address of your router) 6. Click “OK”. Does it work? Regards,Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
