Windows 7 Can't Find Network Drivers
My HP Pavilion a1420n was connected to the Internet; I powered it down for the night and, the next day, I discover that the Ethernet, Network, and PCI Simple Communications controllers - along with the VIA1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller - are no longer working. The PCI bus driver is in place but when I try to reinstall the drivers, Win7 comes back and tells me it can't find drivers - and the drivers are on the hard drive and in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers. The motherboard is an HP Asterope2-GLBE LGA775 800FSB board, ECSRC410-M (V1.1) and I uncovered the following hardware IDs: PCI SCC: PCI\VEN_11C0&DEV_0620&SUBSYS_062011CC&REV_08 Network: PCI\VEN_1434&DEV_0318&SUBSYS_00421737&REV_02 Ethernet: PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_0139&SUBSYS_0A47103C&REV_10 Is this some sort of Win7 failure or do you think the motherboard has failed? I'm having a hard time believing that the PCI bus has failed - Win7 says it's working fine - and I need some help figuring this out. I've tried getting new drivers and they appear to install properly - but no joy; it's as if Win7 doesn't see the drivers or knows that they've been installed. In case I don't make it back here, my email address is: if anyone has some answers. I also did src /scannow and there are no errors reported in the system files and as far as I can tell, the computer itself is fine - except no network controllers!

Hi, You may maually specify the inf file of the driver to see whether it can be installed. If the driver is installed but can not work properly, please post the error message here. Also, You may try to reinstall the mainboard's driver, then install the network controller' driver for a test. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hello Reinstalling /Upgrading the mother board drivers would be a good option to try. Also you canry Last Known Good Configuration and see if that helps. If nothing helps check with the OEM and see if they have an update for the BIOS drivers .

I am attempting to get the motherboard drivers; trying Last Known didn't do a lot of good for me. What I did notice is that the hardware ID of the Ethernet controller has somehow changed and I'm not sure how this has happened. Instead of it reading as PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_0139&SUBSYS_0A47103C&REV_10, it now reads as PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8139&SUBSYS_2A47103C&REV_10 - but the original hardware ID is still in the registry as well, although there seems to be a lot of information missing from the original registry entry under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI. I really don't get it, although this "change" in hardware ID might explain why I'm either seeing a Code 31 or a Code 35 for this device; I think it can't load the drivers (Code 31) because there's information missing from the original Ethernet controller information in the registry; I'm getting the Code 35 because the Realtek 8139 Ethernet controller actually doesn't exist in the machine - the chipset is a RTL8100C and while the Realtek 8139/810x drivers should work, well, with the registry information missing for DEV_0139... and/or the device isn't actually an 8139... you see the problem, I hope.
