Windows 7 Black Screen at Login Anomalies
I realize there are several tickets on this issue, but I've narrowed several variables down and I believe the cause of mine is different than that of the other reported issues. I am working in a domain environment, with server side profiles and document folder redirection, scripting, and mapped network paths. We've deployed Windows 7 throughout one school, and we've not had the black login screen issue on any machines, with the exception of a number of Latitude E6510s we purchased recently. No other laptops or desktops have the black screen after login problem. The part I'm having qualms with: I can resolve the black screen issue by changing the permissions on the C: drive to allow modification (full control works as well; modification is the lowest level that resolves it). When I do so however, the network drives mapped to My Computer break, and although pings to the servers that actually host the files go through fine, the DFS generated relative paths do not work. This is a ridiculously specific problem but I would appreciate any suggestions or insight. I'm stumped.

Hi, I would like to confirm when the black screen appears, before or after logging in to the system? You may test the issue in Clean Boot to remove the possible third party software conflicts first. If it does not work, please change the permissions on Drive C back, update the BIOS and the display card driver for Windows 7 first. Does it work? The black screen occurs after logging in, but before desktop/document population. I'll try what you recommended now and update when I'm done.

The bios update seems to have corrected the issue! Thanks very much for your help.
