Here is the scenario. HP EX475 WHS (500GB, 2X1.5TB, 2TB internal) + SansDigital TR4M Enclosure via eSATA (4X2TB). For an approx. 4TB shared folder on WHS (v1), I would like to turn off file duplication to free space on the server and backup that share to a seperate TR4M (4X2TB) connected to a client using Windows 7 (Ultimate) Backup. Question #1: Can Windows 7 backup be configured to do this? In a perfect world, I'd like to connect 2 eSATA enclosures to the WHS to expand the capacity. I am not comfortable with expanding the storage via USB 2.0 device because of reduced throughput. Question #2: Would WHS then necessarily look to backup the client's eSATA enclosure as part of the regular PC backup? (this would defeat the purpose)

Thank you for your response. A few comments questions: The Wbadmin start backup link that you provided mentions Vista but not Windows 7. Does it indeed work on Windows 7? It appears that the Wbadmin executes a scheduled backup according to parameters that have already been set (if you choose to run it that way). My question is, can Windows 7 backup be setup to backup from a WHS v1 Shared folder to a client? If so, then the Windows 7 Backup tool should work. I will need to make a significant hardware purchase to configure this functionality in the way that I want to, so I have not been able to test the solution yet. This is the reason that I was asking if this is possible. Thanks again.

Hi, Sorry for my misunderstanding, after my test, if this folder is shared by your Windows Home Server, we cannot use Windows 7 backup the shared folder, for your concerns, it should depend on the Windows Home Server backup, there would be a better workaround, it is recommended to ask at the corresponding forum: Windows Home Server Category Good luck.
