that is a Access Denied error, so your user account doesn't have permission to something.

This issue can occur ifthe Volume Shadow Copy serviceor the Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider service is stopped. It's better to make sure the two servicesare start. You can run the following two commands to start them. Net start vssNet start swprvIf the two serviceare fine, and we still get the error, please let us know the detail record in the event log.John zhu

I have the same error, both services were set to manual and not started. I started them but it did not fix the problem. I'm under an admin UAC. - <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> - <System> <Provider Name="Service Control Manager" Guid="{555908d1-a6d7-4695-8e1e-26931d2012f4}" EventSourceName="Service Control Manager" /> <EventID Qualifiers="49152">7023</EventID> <Version>0</Version> <Level>2</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Opcode>0</Opcode> <Keywords>0x8080000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2009-11-20T21:13:20.229016500Z" /> <EventRecordID>6448</EventRecordID> <Correlation /> <Execution ProcessID="536" ThreadID="1068" /> <Channel>System</Channel> <Computer>gpc</Computer> <Security /> </System> - <EventData> <Data Name="param1">Block Level Backup Engine Service</Data> <Data Name="param2">%%-2147024713</Data> </EventData> </Event> I believe this is the record you are asking for, but I have never used the Event Viewer before so I am not sure. Also, I have only had this computer for 10 days and I have 416 error / warnings displayed when I click Administrative Events. Is that normal?

Hi, Have you tried to backup asmall fileusing the following steps to test our issue.1. Open Control Panel ans start creating a backup from the Backup and Restore center.2.Select the Location in order to save backup data.3. Once you have chosen your location, you can now choose what to backup. let's shoose the option "Let me choose". Note: uncheck the option before the "Include a system image of drivers: Unnamed driver".4. Now you can start your backup process. If you still get the error, please collect a screenshot for the error messge, and the screenshot for the Disk Manager to let us know the hard driver useage. Please upload the screenshots in the following linkhttp://skydrive.live.com/ John

hi, Soudami I'm going to email you the logs right now. John, The error I am getting is in step 1 of your solution. I open Backup and Restore, it says: Windows Backup has not been set up. I click Set up backup and that's where I get the error. I have never used Skydrive before, but it seems to be pretty easy, I put both screenshots in my public folder. thanks for your interest -Graham

Hi moderator, Can you send me your Skydrive link?At the same time, you can try to makebackup in Clean Boot mode. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service. Please perform the following steps:1. Click the Start Button and type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search Box and press Enter.2. Select the Services tab in the open window. Check the Hide all Microsoft Services option and click Disable All.3. Switch to the Startup tab and click Disable All.4. Click OK to save the settings and select Restart when prompted.5. Check whether or not the error still occurs.I hope this can help you. John

Hi Moderator, What's up now?If you still get the error when you tried to make backup, it's better to try In-place Upgrade to repair your system components. I hope this can help you.John

HelloI have the same problem: when trying to configure Windows backup, it ends up with the error" Server execution failed (0x80080005)"I have traced the issue back to the "wbengine" service which does not start because of the followingerror : " -2147024713 (0x800700b7)(impossible to create an existing file)I am running Windows 7 home Premium 64bit with a dual boot vista 32_ Windows SevenThis is really annoying as from time to time the "Restore" option is also failing with the error "restore cannot access to a required file"and I think this is also related to the wbengine service So I really need some help to get this sorted out !RegardsPaulo

Hi Paulo,You can try try In-place Upgrade to repair your system components. You can refer to the following steps.1. Log on your computer first, insert the Windows 7 DVD in the computer's DVD drive. 2. Click Start and choose Computer.3. Please find the "setup.exe" file in the DVD-ROM and double click it.4. Click Install now. 5. When we are prompted to input the product key, please click Next without inputting any key. The setup wizard will prompt and ask if you agree to install Windows Vista without the key. Please choose to confirm.6. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want" screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the system files of Windows 7.Note: While performing the In-place Upgrade, the system will restart automatically (several times) to merge the files and programs. Please leave the computer alone and do not configure it until In-place Upgrade is completed. The system will start Windows Vista once it is upgraded. When the In-place Upgrade finishes, please check the original issue again. John John

Hello JohnJust to make sure I quite follow you : you are advising to upgrade my Vista partiton to Windows seven, while keeping in place my current flawed Windows 7 partition ?Thi is not the way I see it :Vista is OK ( restore and backup fully functional), but Windows 7 has issues ( restore and backup generating th above mentionned errors)So I want to fix the windows seven In fact I would be ready to get rid of Vista if windows seven was OK (anyhowI cant as Windows prevents me from formatting the Vista partition : I understand the boot stuff is located on this partition ..!!)SO either I scrap every thing and reinstall Windows seven alone, but I would like to avoid the reinstallation of all my personnal settings/program on the windows seven partition, or I fix my windows seven problemsThanks for your helpPauloPSI have noticed that windows 7 has not been able to create the hidden small partion with its WinRE console, as my whole disk was alredy formatted when I installed windows 7 ( instead it created a Recovery directoryin the windows seven partition), but I am not sure this is relevant for my problem

Hi Paulo,You misunderstood my suggestions.I suggest your perform in-place upgrade after you log onyour WIndows 7 system. In that case, your personnal settings or programs on the windows 7 partition won't be removed.John

Additionally, I would like to propose the following suggestions I would disconnect the USB drive and reboot plug the drive back in and let Windows redetect it and see if it then shows up as for normally as for defragging Defraggler is ok but not great in order to defrag system files which are locked you need a defragger that is capable of a boot time defrag that is the only time locked system files can be defraged you might try Puran Puran Software - Quality First You may also want to try this Insert your OS Disc Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK. Type the following commands at a command prompt. Press ENTER after you type each command. cd /d %windir%\system32 Net stop vss Net stop swprv regsvr32 ole32.dll regsvr32 oleaut32.dll regsvr32 vss_ps.dll vssvc /register regsvr32 /i swprv.dll regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll regsvr32 es.dll regsvr32 stdprov.dll regsvr32 vssui.dll regsvr32 msxml.dll regsvr32 msxml3.dll regsvr32 msxml4.dll Note The last command may not run successfully. Perform a backup operation to verify that the issue is resolved. For More information and help rlated to windows 7 backup error
