Windows 7 Backup - Freezes at 19%
Got my new computer for Christmas with Windows 7. After living through Vista and hearing the positive reviews on 7, I figured that this time it will be great. Nope. Issue. Backup hangs at 19% every time - I let it run last night for 9 hours. 5th attempt and maybe my last. I have another tab open right now researching 3rd party backup software. I am backing up to a brand new WD 1.5TB external hard drive, which has more than 1TB free (same as C Drive). The backup is only supposed to be 320GB, so no issue with space. I have searched the forums and seen that this has been a problem for months (especially during beta), with very few actual solutions. I hope I am not an unintentional beta tester. Nothing in the error log file. I run Microsoft Security Essentials. And no, I will not turn it off to run backup ~ it should work with it on. Isn't that that whole point of security software. Do you have VSS enabled, is the backup also making a system image, etc. Do you have a 100mb hidden partition that Windows 7 makes and if so, does it have at least 40mb free?Read this thread http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/thread/727557e4-2b80-489a-9cae-e6a1852051fbMCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. 70 mb free on the hidden partition. How do I enable/check the VSS (the Shadow service I presume?) Thanks.

I have another tab open right now researching 3rd party backup software. Hi, The best backup software that I have found is "True Image 2010" from Acronis. It works perfectly together with Windows 7 and Microsoft Security Essentials.Backups can be made and restored from within Windows. It is fast and never let me down so far (I am using True Image for years already).A full featured evaluation version is available for download.Follow this link, it is really good.http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/P.S. I am NOT an Acronis employéRegards Picsoe
