Windows 7 Backup; can't configure or run
When I go to control panel and choose "Backup and Restore" all I get is a blank white screen that has the title in blue text "Backup or Restore your files." I have re-booted and clicked on the text to no avail. How do I get into the setup part of the application? Can the program( Windows Backup) be "repaired? I have a new gateway computer with an Intel i7. Calling Gateway is a waste of time, all you get is someone in India who wants me to "restore" the computer to like it was when it left the factory. They don't know anything about Windows 7. MS won't help without paying a fee because Windows 7 was OEM on the computer.

Hi, I would like to suggest you perform a System File Checker to scan the system files first. If it cannot fix the issue, I also would like to suggest you register the msxml3.dll, msxml6.dll, jscript.dll and vbscript.dll. 1. Click the Start button, All Programs and Accessories. 2. Right click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. 3. Type the following commands and press Enter after each line. Regsvr32 msxml3.dll Regsvr32 msxml6.dll Regsvr32 jscript.dll Regsvr32 vbscript.dll Exit Regards, Arthur Li - MSFT

I have the same problem -- only a white screen when I open the Backup app. I've tried Arthur_Li's suggestions but nothing changed. Any other suggestions? This may be a coincidence, but I went to the Win7 backup because the remote backup software I use stopped working. Robert

Hi, If the issue persists, I also would like to suggest you perform an In-Place upgrade to repair the system. In-place Upgrade ============ 1. Start the computer. 2. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the computer's DVD drive. 3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate: a. If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now. b. If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps: b1. Click Start, click Run, type Drive:\setup.exe, and then click OK. Note Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive. b2. Click Install now. 4. When you reach the Which type of installation to you want? screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the current operating system to Windows 7. Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

I found the problem: The Windows Backup service in the Win7 Services tab was disabled. I'm sure I didn't do that intentionally. I enabled it and now see the option to run a backup. Robert
