I have been reading alot about windows 7 back up issues. I am fully aware that the option is there but i HIGHLY recommande users one using 3rd party programs such as Acronis True Home Image 2010,Genie Backup Manager, NTI Backup Now etc etc (all of which that are mentioned are windows 7 compatible). I recommande this because a lot of these softwares have neat features such as incremantale back up (it does 1 full system back up and as more files are saved it adds them on rather then saving a new system image every time which consumes a lot of space).A link for more information: http://data-backup-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

Again, I am aware of that. What windows lacks (by a big shot) is in the "looks" department. My brother uses a MBP and his time machine back up is just very appealing to me where as windows doesn't look all to nice. Aside from the looks, Acronis (my back up software), is easy to use, and has little to completly no problems (again part of the very simple, easy, but overall effective interface) for only $50.

Matter of fact there is. Let's start with the backing up proccess it self. The back up occurs once a day MAX unless I have to manually start it. I don't mean to insult you, or microsoft but I am simply going to compare it to that of the apple counter part, and Acronis. Apple backs up every hour, and Acronis has a feature to set the time (backing up every 5 min is the minimum). As I am currently writing this I am backing up using the back up with windows 7. To me it seems as if microsoft has done this program as a quick job just so they can add it in the list of imporvments and reasons to buy this OS. Second is going to be functionality. In both, Microsoft back up and Acronis I just back up my user file and not the system image because I believe that if windows gets a big virus I'd rather have a clean install. Acronis backs up every 5 minutes (this is the option that Ichose) and I don't even notice it backing up. Microsoft (as I said, I am backing up currently just my user documents) uses as much resources (which is to a mimimum, something I'm very impressed with) but it seems to take longer to back up the same files. Third point is really a feature.In Acronis, the program has a feature called "Try & Decide". This featuresaves all your work (including the registry) so you can install any files (even ones with viruses) and all you have to do at the end is click end Try & Decide where you will be faced with to option keep the changes or restore to before the changes (when restoring the program also restores the registry). I really like this feature and I wish microsoft could implement something along those lines (in my opinion, by far the best feature that could be added). I understand the back up is free but with a bit more work, it can be a solid program that I am proud to use on a regular bases rather than just have it and use a 3rd party software because it's more functional.
