Windows 7 BITS service won't start
I am running Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate. In the system event log, I'm getting errors relating to the BITS service not running. I've tried setting the service to auto and starting, but it won't start due to not finding some DLLs. Is there a "fix-it" kit for BITS? Or a way to re-install BITS? I find some related help for Vista and XP on various forums, but not Windows 7. I had an IE hijack infection recently, but cleaned it up with Spyware Doctor. I have run multiple scans from different products and it seems to be clean now, but maybe some damage was done to the registry. Thanks for any help.

Hi, I suggest you copy the following registry key on another Windows 7 machine which BITS service can start normally and import them to the problematic one. Navigate the following registry key on another Windows 7 machine and export it. Then, please copy and import it on the problematic machine. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BITS If the issue persists, I suggest you run System File Checker (SFC) to verify whether any system file is corrupted. Thanks, Novak

Thank you Novak for this. I have been suffering from this issue for last 4 weeks and tried many things but copying the registry key from my other laptop solved the problem. Thanks again.
