Windows 7 BETA PC added to AD Domain...but AD User account cannot log in
Another Windows 7 BETA PC added to the Windows 2003 AD Domain. Successfully added to the domain.By default, it is added to a group with no group policy restrictions.Rebooted it.Logged in as the local administrator to start addined the Domain Admin/users as local administrator to the Test PC for Windows 7 BETA. I've noticed that adding AD users takes a very long time.Rebooted again just to make sure.Tried to login as the Domain Administrator/user and I can't with all these method:1.) domain\username = get this error "The user name or password is incorrect" (and I've typed in my password correctly)2.) username = "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship." (and the domain has the right domain in it)I've tried several Domain Admin accounts and I still get the error message:"The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship."I can still log in as the local administrator and still access the network by piping it through.I can map a network drive no problem.I cannot add network printers (probably because the drivers are not supported for Windows 7).Any ideas about the AD User not able to login even thought the Windows 7 BETA PC was successfully added to the domain?SysAdmin

I too am having difficulty adding to the domain, except my test machine doesn't get even as far as yours did. I type in the network admin's username and password and it comes back with a blank error message. Anyone else having problems adding a Windows 7 machine to an AD domain? My network is a Windows 2003 network, and my test machine has a clean Windows 7 install (not upgrade). All my test machine's hardware appears to work correctly. I'm even submitting this message from the test machine, so the network card appears to be working correctly.

When adding my Windows 7 PC to the domain, it worked like a champ. Here's the steps that were followed, maybe this might help:- Create a computer account within the domain BEFORE changing the domain settings on the Windows 7 computer- Change the settings on the computer and use a domain admin account to add to the domain- Reboot and log in with the local administrator account, begin adding domain based accounts as Admin, etc.Haven't tried adding a 7 computer to the domain without having the computer object already created, so I don't know if this might be your problem.

I have added the PC to AD and then attempted to join the domain, and that did not work for me. I've added all our network security programs as well (antivirus, etc) thinkingAD may not let me join unless I had up-to-date antivirus and such. That made no difference either.I have also tried connecting via ethernet instead of wirelessly. I can RDC to servers and log in to them without difficulty and I have Internet access, so I know my network card works correctly and that I am on the network. I have rebooted several times and continued my attempt to add to the domain all to no avail. I continue to receive an error message that reads, "The following error occured attempting to join the domain domain.local:" (a blank line follows the colon). "More information is available." (yet there is no link to more information).

I am not able to provide advice on solutions, but for what it's worth: I havebeenable toadd the Windows 7 computers to my SBS2003 domain. However, at one occasion the process seemed to hang and there may have been an error message. But I tried again, and then it worked without a glitch. The computer accountsare already set up in SBS, using the same accounts that were originally XP then Vista, i.e. I have not added accounts, merely changed and upgraded the computers and kept the same computer names.

It seems that those who have only upgraded machines that were previously joined to the domain are not having trouble, but I continue to be unable to join this laptop to the domain. Does anyone else have any suggestions or a similar experience?

Just to clarify: In my case the actual accounts were already created, but the computers have changed, both in terms of installs, hardware changes and even completely new machines. I always wipe the machines before installing, never upgrades. I guess the actual account matters little here, except that the computer name exists. But since you have set it up before trying to connect to the AD, I'm stumped. I guess I'm lucky for once. Still, I have a hard time believing that this big a bug would fall through all previous testing. My gut feeling is that it comes down to drivers. Still you tried both wired and wireless. I have not idea really, but I have trouble accessing Vista machines in the domain. I can access from Win7 to Win7 and Win7 to server shared drives (both SBS and WHS) but Win7 to Vista and Vista to Win7 does not work. I have two different Win7 laptops with different wireless adapters. Hmm, come to think of it I had none of these problems in the M3 build. Sorry for taking the thread on a tangent, but it may be related... EDIT: After some more trial and error, I found out that there is sort of a "now it works - now it don't" going on. So perhaps there is something going on on the Vista machine. I leave my previous comments if someone recognises it, if so there might be something after all. Me, I'm having doubts...

I performed an "upgrade install" of Windows 7 on a laptop that had already been added to the domain under Vista. The laptop continued to flawlessly log on to the domain. Yet the exact same model laptop that had the clean install of Windows 7 still cannot join the domain, even when I give it the IP address of the domain controller. This issue is still open for me. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone else have a suggestion?

I have several clean loaded Windows 7 machines that I have successfully added to my W2k3R2 domain w/out any issues at all. I have done it by creating the computer account first and by doing it at the time of the domain joining. In each case, all went perfectly well.

I envy you and the others who have responded likewise. I have attempted to create the accounts first and I still receive the oddly unhelpful error message listed above. I don't think most people are having this issue, which is what makes this particularly difficult to resolve. I have an idea though and will post back the results when I have them later today. Thanks for your help everyone.

Hi Everyone,In my case I joined a Windows 2003 domain without first adding it to the Active directory, and all worked fine, until this morning when I changed my password from an XP machine. My Windows 7 never got back on the domain.I keep getting the message that the trust relationship with the primary domain has failed.I will try removing and adding to the domain again, and maybe changing my password from the Windows 7 PC.
