Windows 7 Aero doesnt work when attached to docking station
Weve had a problem with several users and several different laptops where Windows Aero seems to act up when the laptop is docked, removing the machine from the dock resolves the issue but obviously this is not a solution. There are multiple different models of HP laptop involved with vbarious docks so the issue doesnt seem to be to do with any specific device.

Hi, Firstly, please let us know what the mode of your docking station is. Also, please check if the latest driver for the docking station has been installed, and whether it is compatible with Windows 7. In addition, when the issue occurs, please run Aero troubleshooter and see how it works. If persists, it is also recommended to contact your OEM for help. Hope this helps. Explanation: Dwm (the window manager) checks for a registry entry that contains the speed rating of the current video card, and only if it's high enough will it enable Aero. Normally the video card is rated during Windows Setup, or through the Task Scheduler once a week when the computer is logged in.

This turned out to be caused by having too many USB devices drawing power from the docking station, unplugging a USB speaker/Mic fixed the problem.
