Windows 7 7100 Network Startup Delay
I've been using the Windows 7 7100 RC for a few months now and it works great however a strange problem seems to have started with network startup. Windows 7 boots and I select my login from the welcome screen and the desktop appears but it takes around 1 - 2 minutes for the network connection to establish. There is no hard drive activity or programs loading during this time. If I check the Network and Sharing page it shows my LAN connection with a red cross, then after 1 - 2 minutes it will say Identifying for a short time, then become functional. This happens after a warm or cold reboot everytime. My IP address is assigned statically as are my default gateway and dns servers.Any clues as to how to rectify the problem will be most appreciated.Rgds,Rob.

Hi Rob, It is normal that it takes a while for the network being recognized and connected after starting up the computer. However, if it takes a long time for the network being recognized, it is possible the network adapter is not compatible with Windows 7. Please confirm this with the hardware manufacturer. If the network adapter is compatible with Windows 7, please upgrade the network adapter driver to the latest one and see if the issue can be resolved. Also, did you optimized the startup time using third party software such as quick startup? If so, please restore the settings and remove the software to check the result. In addition, you also can see if the issue occurs in Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. Hope this helps. Regards, Linda

@Rawb0 - I have also noticed this behavior recently. I have been using 7 since public beta several months ago. About a month ago the network adapter started taking a very long time to be recognized by windows. This happens with my nic and wireless adapters. I have not changed hardware or drivers. I think there was something pushed out in an update but I can seem to find the cause of it. Nothing shows up in event logs. Its frustrating. I will try the Clean Boot test mentioned by Linda and se if that helps. -Scott

I am also in the same boat. I have a dell laptop D830 and it is compatibe with windows 7. I timed the delay and it take around 1 1/2 minutes to get the network recognized. Also with my wireless it first shows that it has limited access around 1 minute timeframe and then it rectifies itself. As others said no logs or anything around that timeframe. any help is highly appreciated.-Ramesh

I as well. I thought this was something that was going to go away when I went from beta to ultimate, but the problem still exists. It takes about a minute and a half to recognize any available wireless networks in the area. My wireless card is the linksys wmp54g and my router a westell 7500. Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

I as well too. I have two computers, different brands, both running Windows7 Ultimate. After a fresh install of Windows7, both of them behaved well for a few weeks. Now I have this problem on both computers, one at work office and one at home. Since there are others having the same problem, and I believe there are several others to come, I am really looking forward to a solution to this problem. Thanks

I am a computer network administrator and I have noticed the same issue in a few computer although the delay is only a few seconds. Of a bigger concern for me is the NICS are turned off when the computers go to sleep even though the box in the adapter properties labeled Allow Windows to put this deice to sleep is unchecked. Is there a resolution to this issue? Thanks, Steve

I, too. I run a FoxPro 8 app which watches a folder on the network for activity using "ADir". Running this app on any MS OS but Win 7 is fine. On Win 7, it does not recognize changes in this network folder for 6-12 seconds. Get this - if I open an instance of Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder containing the FoxPro 8 app and just minimize Explorer, the delays are gone! It is a different iteration of the same issues described here. Any clues would be most appreciated?

Me too. I have a newer, high performance workstation. The network conx used to come up virtually instantly on log in. Now it takes about 30 seconds. The fact that it used to come up quickly (and nothing else has changed) indicates that something--perhaps an update, which has been mentioned earlier--is to blame. I hope someone can offer some additional insight here. I have the latest driver for the NIC and no third party quick start software.

I have the same problem here, it takes almost 2 minutes to full load the network, everything else is ready to use but the network when the windows is done loading. I've tried installing the Windows 7 OS to check if the problem was solved and I found that recent installed Windows 7 don't have the delay issue, but after several months using it, the problem came back. I didn't install any third-party software to accelerate the load speed, the delay just came with time. Any idea about what's going on? This problem seems common.

Hi, I have had this problem on 3 out of 4 pc's with Win7X64 since I installed those back in dec 2009. I hoped the problem would go away with some update, but no luck so far. I don't have this problem with a Lenovo X201 laptop with Win64 pre-installed. I also don't have it with the 4th pc, which has exactly the same hardware as pc nr 1. this has happened since I did clean installs of all the pc's, and I have done windows update on all of those quite recently. I would really hope that someone can explain why it takes a good 30 seconds before I get any network access. Erwin PS when changing the IP address to static it does not make any difference.
