Windows 7 64bit SP1 PRO goes to sleep randomly while gaming/full screen?
I have hibernation disabled, and for whatever reason my computer keeps going to sleep randomly. I want to say it's been 100% of the time while I am gaming full screen.I recently got a new video card (680 GTX), and SSD in hopes those may have been the issue...reformatted, and it still persists. I have checked the event viewer, but nothing stands out as to being an issue, except the NIC lost power and had to reconnect, which I assume is from itself forcing into sleep out of the blue. I know it is not a temp issue, as i've watched CPU and GPU temps and they are more then safe... CPU barely breaks 35C, and GPU sits around 60C. Another odd issue, I had my monitors set to sleep at 15 minutes of inactivity, it never did ... they would stay on for hours.

I also have a similar issue. While watching video on or browsing my computer will go to sleep. I have no idea why. It is only while using XBMC to watch videos that the computer stay on for more than 30 minutes. I have my power scheme set to high performance. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks

It isn't always there, sometimes it will never happen .. sometimes it will be 3-4 hours into a gaming session, so random. I have checked for virus/maleware, but nothing. Also figured reformatting would have fixed the issue too, but no.

Hi , Are you using a laptop or a desktop? How do you configure the power option and the display? Is this computer stand-alone or in the domain environment? Whether the computer would go to sleep randomly while gaming/full screen before you replaced the new video card and SSD? If not, this can be caused by the new hardware and the game are not compatible. And you may try to update the video card driver. Also, please make sure the computer configuration meets the minimum requirements of the game. You can use powercfg requests command to check whether there are applications and drivers to prevent the computer from automatically powering off the display or entering the sleep mode. To do this, click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, right-click cmd, and then click Run as administrator. Run Powercfg requests command. desktop, high performance power + NEVER shut off or standby monitors/computer, no domain (workgroup). The computer would go to sleep while gaming/full screen before replacing SSD and GPU, and reformatting. i5 2500k 680 GTX 16GB DDR3 Asus p8p67 pro rev3 It meets the minimum :). I had already done what hte article recommends. Even so, it should NOT go to sleep on me while gaming. I will try that powercfg requests command when I get home.

Hi , Please type the powercfg -requests command manually. Please note there is a space before -. Also, you can run it with / switch to check the result. For example: powercfg /requests. Hi , The result indicates that there are not applications and drivers to prevent the computer from automatically powering off the display or entering the sleep mode. First, make sure you have set the monitor and computer to never turn off and never sleep. This time, please take the following suggestions to troubleshoot: 1.Configure the sleep settings in Group Policy. Click Start, type gpedit.msc in the Start Search box, press Enter to open Local Group Policy Editor.Navigate to Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->System->Power Management->Sleep Settings.Double click Allow applications and services to prevent automatic sleep, choose Enabled. If you enable this policy setting, any application, service or device driver may prevent Windows from automatically transitioning to sleep after a period of user inactivity. And double click Turn on the Ability for Applications to Prevent Sleep Transitions, choose Enabled. If you enable this policy setting, an application or service may prevent the system from sleeping (Hybrid Sleep, Stand By, or Hibernate). 2.Please disable hibernate through regedit. Before modify the registry keys, please take a backup of the key. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, please click the following link to view the article: Back up the registry http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Back-up-the-registry Open the Registry and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power and change both HiberFileSizePercent and HibernateEnabled value data to zero. After youve made the changes, please close out of the Registry Editor and restart the machine. Meanwhile, I would like to confirm whether there are some other power management software installed on your desktop. If so, please temporarily disable or uninstall them to check the result. You may also boot in Safe Mode and Clean Boot environment to check the issue.Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support

Hi , It seems the issue persists after we had made all the settings to disable sleep mode. If so, this issue is probably related to Power Supply that is not sufficient. You may check Power Supply for this Box. Also, considering that you added a new display card, please also update its driver to the latest version. Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support

I had reformatted when I got the new video card, and grabbed the latest from nvidia.com. I have a 1050WATT corsair PSU, so I know it is not a power issue, as the PC barely draws 230Watt on full load/gaming.

OK, so I replaced my keyboard, as I had a feeling that might have been part of the issue ... 5 days later, no issues. I am going to consider this the resolution ... if it comes back, I will post/update.
