Windows 7 64bit, backup fails with 0x81000015
A normal file system backup (as opposed to system image backup) is now failing with error code 0x81000015. I don't have Stuffit, or Carbonite. As far as I can tell, zip suffix is still associated with Windows and not some 3rd party tool. This was working before but has been failing in the last week or so. The backup fails near the end, but it has written many zip files to the network share. There is no problem with disk space on either the C: drive (more than 1Tb free) or on the network share to which backups are directed (more than 3Tb free). This seems like a Windows 7 defect to me. Any ideas how to fix this problem? Thanks, David.

Hi, Please refer to the similar thread below to see whether it helps. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/hu-HU/w7itprogeneral/thread/5bd7cbc9-2689-4a48-a50b-ba256229ef19 Also, I suggest you to uninstall the recently installed applications to emilinate the causes 3rd party software and temporarily disable anti-virus and firewall software. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I had already seen that thread and other similar ones. Which is why I mentioned: I don't have Stuffit. I don't have Carbonite. .ZIP and .CAB files open in Explorer - there are no 3rd party applications that have taken over these suffixes. In fact, the backup has sucessfully created many ZIP files in the target network location prior to the point of failure. I had run the scan utility to verify system files and it reported no errors. I cleaned out all my temp files. There is >1TB free on my system drive, and >3TB free on the network location, so lack of disk space does not seem to apply here. So nothing specifically suggested in that or other threads seems to apply or provide a workaround. I can provide the WindowsBackup.etl file for such a failure if that would help to diagnose this further. Any takers? I can perform a complete system image backup, so am having to do that to different network locations. Thanks, David.

I should add that I'm using Kaspersky anti-virius 2012, but that reports no threats or quarantines or other issues in the last few weeks when I've been having this backup problem. Suggesting that I install things seems like a very invasive and guess-work approach. Surely there list be a more methodical process to determine the reason for the error, such as the .ETL file from the backup?
