Windows 7 32bit, cannot create a restore point
When trying to create a restore port ( win says there aren't any) i get 'a volume shadow copy component encountered an uexpected error. Check the application event log for more info. (0x80042302). The event says "Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80070057, The parameter is incorrect.' Any ideas???? thanks

Try turning off system restore (control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > System Protection tab > configure button > turn off system protection ) and then re-enabling it. Jerry

Hi cavalier66, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet forums. Firstly, please check whether Volume Shadow Copy Service, System Restore Service is started and set to Automatic. 1. Type Services.msc in Start Menu search box hit Enter. 2. Make sure that the Volume Shadow Copy Service is running and set on Automatic. 3. Set the status of System Restore Service on Automatic also. 4. Restart your computer. In addition, temporarily turn off the anti-virus or firewall to check if it works. If the issue persists, I would like to know more information. 1. How did you create the restore port? Where do you want to restore from? 2. What’s the detailed error message? Event ID? Source? Description? Best Regards, Miya Yao TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Hello, Some similar issues show that the error occurs due to TypeLib failed to register. Please refer to the following KB article to re-register the component: (KB2009533) No VSS writers are listed when you run vssadmin list writers on Windows Server 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2009533 Note: This article is written for Windows Server 2008 but the similiar solution applies to many platforms. Please give it a try and note to backup the related registry key before doing any changes. Let us know the result if possible. Thanks. Best Regards, Miya Yao TechNet Subscriber Support in forum.
