Windows 7 10mbps Link Speed
I have a Latitude E6400, which Windows 7 detects only 10mbps link speed. Specs: Dell Latitude E6400 Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit Intel 82567LM gigabit network adapter Switch: Cisco Catalyst 4506 (100mbit switch) If I attempt to manually set the link speed to 100mbps, the transmission speeds drop drastically. I get the fastest speeds when "Auto Negotiate" is selected, but it detects 10mbps. On the exact same laptop, if I install Windows XP Pro, 100mbps is detected and I get transmission speeds as would be expected for a 100mbps connection. But for some reason Windows 7 will not correctly detect my link speed. Thanks, Zak

I do not beleive this is a Windows problem. TAke a look at the switch port (by logging into the managed switch). You should configure the switch port back to auto. Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

I have not changed port settings on the switch. I have an Optiplex 780 with W7 Ent 64-bit, and another Optiplex 780 with Windows XP, if I plug them into the same port via the same cable, I get 100Mbps link speed. Like I said, if I install Windows XP Pro on the exact same laptop, I get 100Mbps. Regards, Zak

Ok, then I would tend to think this would be a driver issue since we are talking about the same hardware, different OS. You installing two different OSs on the same laptop running two different drivers confirms its not a hardware issue. Do you have support with Dell? Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Correct you are sir. Drivers were my first assumption, however, after downloading the latest drivers from Dell and still having the issue, I moved on. Before contacting Dell, I decided to check out Intel's website directly which had new Windows 7 64-bit drivers available as of 10/1/2010. After installing these drivers, my link speed switched to 100Mbps. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18713&ProdId=3003&lang=eng Thanks for the help. Zak
