Windows 7 / Windows 98 shared access problem - please help
I have Windows 7 server, which XP+ OS can access shares on, but when connecting with 98/95, it prompts for password for \\MyComputername\IPC$ - which I dont know? If I force to to look for my share, by typing \\mycomputername\c (C = shared named) is does ask for the password for that share, but when I enter the username password it still fails. The windows 7 station can see the 98 terminal. Windows 7 has all sharing set, firewall disabled, the options are open as freely as I can set them. On the 98 terminal, I have deleted *.PWL and when windows restarted it propted me for a user name, I entered the same user name as used on the W7 box. I entered the same password. This still has no effect. I have added Guest to the list of full access users on the W7 box shared users - still no effect. Stuck on this one help would be appreciated !

Hello, Windows 7 is using only NTLMv2 authentication for remote access but your Windows 98 terminal is trying to authenticate with LM/NTLM. These old authentication methods block Windows 7. You can change the authentication level in gpedit.msc: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level
