Windows 7 - no welcome screen, no desktop icons or start menu, just background picture
Hello, we have bought a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium and have been having trouble loading up when turning it on. After the black Windows screen, 50% of the time it doesn't give the blue welcome screen but goes straight to our desktop background - without icons, start menu or mouse cursor. If I press CTRL+ALT+DLT the screen goes black. After resetting, I can start it in safe mode and usually after 10 mins if I shut it down for 10 mins and then restart it will start fine. We don't have a log in, and I have taken it back several times to the place where we bought it, but it doesn't do it in the shop. We have tried a new cord, new powerboard and plugging it directly into the wall. There is nothing in the Action Centre, but quite a few messages in the Event log in the Diagnostics - Performance Operational area (if this helps). I have disabled our screen saver (the computer doesn't 'come back' after this has been on- same screen - just background picture, no icons, no start menu, no mouse) and I have changed the desktop display to one of the Sample ones. I have run our anti-virus and spyware with no result. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi CarlyH, When did the issue first occur? Did it occur after installing some software or changing some hardware? You can first try System Restore to see if the issue can be resolved. 1) Reboot and press F8 2) Select "Repair my computer" 3) Select the keyboard layout and language 4) When you reach system recovery tools, select System restore. 5) Select the restore point when it was working fine and restart the computer. If the issue persists, please check if the Task Manager can be launched when the issue reoccurs. To do so, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc on the keyboard. Once the Task Manager is launched, click File -> New Task (Run)… -> type explorer.exe in the box and then press ENTER. Also, you can access Safe Mode and perform a full scan of the system using your anti-virus and anti-spyware software to see if there is any suspicious items can be found. Hope this helps.
