Windows 7 - Workgroup - Media players
I have a simple network as follows: Netgear router: x.x.x.1 - DHCP server range x.x.x.100 to x.x.x.200 Windows 7 Desktop PC: x.x.x.2 with shared folder Windows 7 Laptop: x.x.x.3 with shared folder containing identical media files to desktop via software 8 mediaplayers set to auto (DHCP) The network works perfectly allowing me to access media files from either laptop or PC. I can browse to the laptop or PC via "WORKGROUP". When the system becomes heavily used the "WORKGROUP" disappears without obvious cause or reason. I can continue to access my files via a direct IP "shortcut" from the media players. I can still browse from laptop to desktop in the failed condition. Restarting the laptop and / or desktop restores the network to a working condition. I am concluding, therefore that the problem is with one or both of these computers. I would appreciate any help or ideas with this problem.

1. There are two aspects: visibility and accessibility. Do you mean that you cannot access the resources or you do not see when under high load? 2. You are not specific about the amount of data that is transfered. 3. For detailed analysis you would need to scan network traffic (Microsoft network monitor of Wireshark). 4. How is set the DHCP (leased time)? 5. How are network interface card set from the point of view of speed (static or automatic)? 6. Do you use QoS? If not, disable it in interface network card configuration. 7. I am not specialist in mediaplayers (and more, they are not specified). I would recommend to find the way how to tune their functionality. 8. There is common denominator and the slovest device on network is key for the speed set. 9. Use Performance monitor to pinpoint possible queues for resources. Regards Milos

Hi, May I know what issue you have suffered from? What does heavily used mean? You may disable firewall and antivirus for testing. If you have further question about this issue, please let me know.Ivan-Liu TechNet Community Support

Thank you all for comments. I found the problem was a bad network card in the PC that was causing NETBIOS election storms. New card - robust network.
