Windows 7 - Windows XP Networking Problem
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with all important patches Windows XP SP3 with all important patches Machines are hardwired to a Linksys router. From the Windows XP machine I can browse Entire Network\Windows Networking\<workgroup> and see all of the machines on my LAN -- Windows 7 and Windows XP. From the Windows 7 machine I click on Computer then on Network and only the Windows 7 machines show up. However, if type \\<Windows XP Machine name>\ into the Search window I will see a prompt for all of the shares on the Windows XP machine. If I select one Explorer opens a window showing the contents and the Windows XP machine is listed in the Network section in the left pane. If I then open another instance of Explorer the Windows XP machine is not listed in the Network section. The Windows 7 machines are use dynamic IPs wereas the Windows XP machine is on a static IP address. The LAN is defined as a Work Network. The Windows 7 machines are using Microsoft Security Essentials. The Windows XP machine is using Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite. Can anyone explain what is going on?

It could be that the shortcuts have been deleted from the display. On the Windows 7 computer, go to Network and expand Network in the left pane. If the XP computer is there, are the folders showing when it is expanded? If so, just drag the shortcut(s) to the main display.

If I start Explorer by clicking on Computer in the Start menu the Windows XP machine does not show up when you expand the Network section in the left pane. If I start Explorer by typing \\<Windows XP machine name>\ in the search box and press enter the Windows XP machine does show up under Network in the left pane and is selected showing the shares in the right pane. If I then click on the Network Icon in the left pane only the Windows 7 machines show up in the right pane. It is not possible to drag the Windows XP icon from under Network in the left pane to the right pane.
