Windows 7 - Outlook 2007 - Instant Search works but not for Exchange cached emails (OST)
I have tried rebuilding indexes but it didn't help. Indexing always shows incomplete and the number of items outstanding always incrementing slowly but it never finishes and NO results are returned for Exchange emails - the PST files being used for archives index fine. I have deleted the OST and had Outlook repopulate twice but that didn't help. Next step is to delete the users profile but I thought I would post here first and see if anyone has other suggestions. I am sorry to say I don't have answer after working on the same problem with another user. The result was never posted. Anyway, look at the fact that the mail is not saved in the local PST when you use Exchange server for a solution. Are the properties of the OST set to allow indexing? By default it should be indexed. You can check and try to index it in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Indexing options. Open Windows Explorer, select organize at the top, select folder and search options, select search tab. Check the settings there. Try include subfolders and partial matches By default it should be indexed. You can check and try to index it in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Indexing options. If I can find the thread it will help as we were able to get search results except for one specific email type.

Hi Nano, All the settings were correct to allow for indexing the OST cached emails. In the end we deleted the users email profile and recreated it. We knew this would work as we created a second profile earlier for a different user and it indexed that users cached OST fine meaning that it wasn't a systemic problem with the machine. After deleting and recreating the original users mail profile it indexed the cached OST fine. Then we added some archive PST's to the profile and the problems resumed so the user agreed to remove those from indexing and now its working. She doesn't want to spend time/money analyzing why some older archive PST's are causing the problem. The odd thing about this issue is that the archive PST's indexed completely when included. Just for some background there were 4 of them averaging about 1GB each. Doug Steinschneider DCS Group
