Windows 7 - No Internet Access, Faulty router?
Hi So in Thursday I had the delight to experience not having internet and I still don't except for this iMac. This will make sense when I explain my setup. I have a Belkin router the WAN cable is connected to it and the other end to the outlet on the wall. To the Belkin router there is connected an iMac and a Windows 7 homebuilt system. I had no problem whatsoever regarding networking it went smooth, but it everything went wrong on thursdays, there was no internet for both of the computers. I did reset the router, physically on that little button and internally where you access the "router homepage", well that didn't help. I then connected the cable from the iMac directly to the net-outlet and then I have access to the internet. I do that the same with my Windows 7 system and it says no internet access. I did a ipconfig on the windows 7 system while it was connected to the router and it said this: Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Belkin Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::9514:4e7d:e389:d6a3%11 IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.82 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 Tunnel adapter isatap.Belkin: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Belkin Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : I don't know much about this, but "media disconnected" sounds pretty obvious, I just don't know how to tackle this problem. I have disabled Apple's Bonjour in MSCONFIG and even System Restore to solve this problem. Sorry for writing so much, hope someone can help me :) Peace.

Hi, The wall outlet is connected to what type of hardware? You are getting the default gateway of 192.168.2.1 from where...a modem or a router? Is this a shared source, such as landlord provided or a private source?

Thank you for your response Nano Warp. Yes, it is a shared source landlord provided. Well the 192.168.2.1 default gateway is from the Belkin Router right? I connected my Win7 system directly to the outlet and did ipconfig/all. I get this: Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : workstation Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : E0-CB-4E-9D-FD-FE DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::9514:4e7d:e389:d6a3%11(Preferred) Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.214.163(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : 249613134 DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : 00-01-00-01-13-A4-28-B0-E0-CB-4E-9D-FD-FE DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : fec0:0:0:ffff::1%1 fec0:0:0:ffff::2%1 fec0:0:0:ffff::3%1 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Tunnel adapter isatap.{CDF29741-34D8-44E2-8C7A-BCEEA0F7E59D}: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Microsoft ISATAP Adapter #2 Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes As you can see there's nothing writing under default gateway. I'm writing this under the iMac and when I check under Network it does say though IP Address: 192.168.1.60 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Router 192.168.1.1 So the outlet on my wall must be connected to some router in the basement ? Pardon for my novice, networking is not really my thing.

We have the same issue. Wednesday morning June 30th we came in and all our Win7 computers have a yellow alert on the network icon in the system tray saying we don't have internet access - but we do. Route print says I have a netmask of 0.0.0.0 and the other gateway entries say "on-link" I try route delete 0.0.0.0 - reboot - and the yellow alert is still here. I even did a clean install of win7 and out of the box, I still get this alert.Thanks!

I feel for you man, I think the culprit are the computers the settings are doing some serious jam. I'm going to contact my landlord and ask him if he can maybe reset the entire network, maybe that would help. I'll report back. Anyway it would be nice if anyone know the solution :) Peace.

Hi, Can you access internet when only iMac is connected to the router? This issue might involve the ISP and router settings, it is suggested to contact them and ask if there is any software update for the router. As this windows forum, let us focus on the issue that windows 7 get "no Internet Access" when connecting directly to the net-outlet to avoid confuse. I suggest disable your firewall and check the result. Also check the box before "Automactically obtain IP address" from TCP\IP setting. Hi Magon Liu Okay something good happend, but I didn't do anything. I connected the Windows 7 system directly to the "net-outlet" and it has access to the internet. So the culprit must be the router that I have hanging on my wall. I did reset it, but with no result. I also disabled firewall and checked the "Automactically obtain IP address" from TCP\IP setting, no internet access. My brother is coming over tomorrow, so hopefully he can shed some light into this. I'll report back the solution if I get any :) Peace.

IP Address: 192.168.1.60 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Router 192.168.1.1 So the outlet on my wall must be connected to some router in the basement ? Pardon for my novice, networking is not really my thing. Apparently, you are connecting to another router. This requires specific settings in the second router. You will need to configure your router to start at 192.168.2.1 or 10.0.0.0. Then your router will an aquire an ip from the building router, say 192,168.1.60, but assign your computers at 192.168.2.1, 192.168.2.2, or 10.0.0.1, 10.0.0.2 and so on. You could also run into issues with multiple NAT. You may need to disable NAT on your router. A switch would work the best for you, unless you want a wireless access point. Then you have you configure your router differently. Belkin support may also provide guidance to configure the router connected to another router. The use guide will walk you through the configuration process.

Hi, So the situation now is when you connect the pc to the outlet directly, there are no issues. Whenever connecting to the Belkin router, both iMac and Windows 7 get no internet access. Like you said, it may be caused by the faulty router. It is suggested to contact Belkin support to troubleshoot on the device. For your reference: http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/product/list/q/routers/ http://www.belkin.com/contactus/index.asp Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft.
