Windows 7 - New Black Screen of Death?
Hey guys, I'm really hoping you can help me out on this one. I'm running Windows 7 Pro x64, on an ASUS m3n-ht deluxe and an EVGA (nvidia) GTX 280. I am running it out to a Hanns-G HH251 LCD Monitor. Here's my issue. When I start my machine everything seems fine, I get to the login screen. I enter my password and upon entering the screen goes black. Red and blue pixels will flash, and then green pixels overlaying what looks like my desktop wallpaper (although there are no lit pixels other than green). I cant go to task manager, cant do anything. I end up having to boot into safe mode. I've tried installing the newest drivers from nvidia but no solid fix. Occasionally I will actually be able to get into windows, but it will randomly hang up, and pixels will again be overlaid on whatever is on my screen. Almost as if it wants to put another image of what I have on my display over top of itself. Let me know if anyone's experienced this or if there is a fix or if you need anymore info. Thank you so much.

Hi, When did the issue begin to occur? Does the issue occur in Safe Mode? To troubleshoot the issue, I suggest you perform the following steps. 1. Restart the machine in Safe Mode and perform a Clean Boot to check the result. 2. Perform a System Restore before the issue occurs. 3. Replace another Monitor for a test. Thanks for the response. The issue doesnt appear in safe mode. I already have my services and startup tweaked with msconfig, I disabled all but the services/applications that appear to be tied to my nvidia drivers but still I get the craziness. Here is a picture of what it looks like (sorry for the bad quality, snapped with an iphone) http://www.incasofemergency.com/photo.jpg I recently RMA'd my video card from EVGA because my last one died on me. That last one didnt have any issues like this. I've been in touch with their tech support and want to see if I can possibly get yet another RMA. I checked the voltage on my +12v and its at 11.9 so that seems solid. I've done a system restore but it doesnt work (it boots up into the same black screen, colored pixels). Is there a way that I can get any type of error logs or something so that I can see whats going on when this happens. I've also tried switching my video card to a different PCI-E slot, using the second DVI port on the card, and installing the newest drivers from nvidia, from evga, and also the ones that win7 just installs, but none of them seem to make a difference. Any other advice would be most appreciated. Thanks

Hi, Since the issue does not occur in Safe Mode, we can conclude that the issue can occur by incompatible third party programs or display driver. At this stage, I suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Please Type MSCONFIG in Search box and press Enter. 2. In the opened box, please click “Selective startup” option and uncheck the “Load system services” and “Load startup items” options. 3. Then, please restart the machine to check the result. If the issue persists, I’m afraid that the issue can be caused by incompatible display driver and you may need involve the manufacturer for further assistance.
