Windows 7 - Netbook cannot connect to wireless or straight to modem
I've returned to Windows 7 Home Premium after looking at Linux OSs and XP and cannot get a wireless or wired connection. I have an Acer Aspire One D255. It's a netbook and comes with wifi. When I reinstalled W7, the only icon that relates to a connection is described as a box with a red "X" in the bottom corner right and a wire going straight up on the left side, which I don't remember as long as I have used W7 (but then again I always had a connection.) So I click on the foreign icon and there is, of course, no connection. I troubleshoot it and windows tells me that it does not detect a properly installed network adapter (when I click on next it says that Windows cannot find a driver for my network adapter). I spent the rest of the day searching for drivers for Acer D255 but none of the drivers fixed it. I then tried to hook the laptop straight up to the modem, hoping that I could get the included software on W7 to fix the driver, but there is no reaction when I plug it in (probably from lack of a driver?). I truly do not know what to do I checked the Acer site for drivers, none worked. I used my Google-fu, nada. So, does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong or solutions? I'd greatly appreciate it.

I've reinstalled the operating system and the problem persists. Should I crack open my netbook and see if the network card came unplugged?

If there's a panel on the bottom that would allow you to take a look at the wireless card then sure, go right ahead, otherwise no. If you can look at the wireless card, find out who made the chipset. Acer uses for different types for that model - Atheros, Realtek, Intel and Broadcom. Fortunately they only use Atheros for the wired LAN. I'm sure you already know, but drivers can be found here: http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers. But without knowing the chipset used installing the correct drivers is hit-and-miss. If you can find the chipset you can try going directly to the manufacturer's site (Realtek, Intel, Broadcom...) and getting more up-to-date ones.

Hi, Please go to Device Manage to check if any wireless device is listed. If not, it seemed the computer cannot recognize the wireless card. I suggest contacting Acer to check the hardware.
