Windows 7 - NAS Discovery Not Working
All, I have just upgraded to Win 7 from Vista. I have a NAS box on my home network. Now I can map a network drive using the IP address with no issues, but I can't see the NAS in my Network explorer, this was working fine before the upgrade (also can't resolve the NAS server name). I've read all the related articles and have checked that my sharing options are set correctly and I've double checked the related service to check that they are running, but still no luck. Any ideas? Thanks Bob

Please temporary disable firewall and try to access the NAS box with its name and then with its IP address. If the access failed, please let us know the model of the NAS drive and the detail error message. Meantime please make the following changes on the Windows 7 computer: 1. Open gpedit.msc. 2. Find the policy Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options ->Network Security: Configure encryption types allowed for Kerberos 3. Configure the policy. If it is not configured, actually both DES cipher suites are disabled. I suggest that you enable all the suits. Then please check the result. If the issue persists, please change the NTLM type in Windows 7. 1. Launch regedit from Start Search box.2. Find the following branch. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa 3. Create a DWORD key under Lsa and set: Name: LmCompatibilityLevel Value: 1 4. Restart.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi,Thanks for your reply. I've tried everything you've suggested, but still can't see the NAS box. I continue to be able to map network drives based on IP address.Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance
