I had heard that Windows 7 was developed with XP as a base. I was really looking forward to geting a newer OS that was easily managed. It wasn't! I paid the price and downloaded the RC version and have spent over 40 hours attempting to connect to a simple, home, XP network. Seven has the same inherent roadblocks as Vista. Online and F1 help is catch-as-catch-can. No definite fixes for problems, just 'Try this, it worked for me.'. Oh well, another week shot to you know where. Microsoft is going to have to extend support for XP until they have the sense to develop an OS that is easily manageable for the average user. Vista was a clean slate build, from the ground up which, explains why you can't go from XP to Windows 7 as an upgrade path. Also explains why there will be difficulties doing things between XP & Windows 7.Have no idea where you got 73%. Some users stayed w/ XP due to a lot of misguided bad hype Vista received in the beginning... I say misguided cus it was mostly based on compatibility issues due to 3rd party vendors & manufacturers not ready for it & ppl wrongly put the blame on Vista. Some Enterprise customers needed XP for some apps so some new machines were downgraded for that reason... it is also why XP Mode is in Windows 7.As for MS "waking up"... Not only according to OS life-cycles was a new OS due but, MS approached Windows 7 in an effort & w/ an aim & goal to addressing the complaints that existed towards Vista. Consequently it is superior to & more appealing than Vista & both are better than XP, certainly under the covers & in many ways.I used XP for years, beta tested Vista & Windows 7. Have worked w/ many clients through XP & Vista. I am, now, very excited to guide them into Windows 7.
