Windows 7 (x64) Service Pack 1 corrupts User Account
Hi there, I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Have fresh installed Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) on a brand new PC. All is well other than once SP1 is installed I can no longer save icons (appl shortcuts) to the desktop. Applications being installed can also not place icons on the desktop. Finding the executable and sending that to the desktop places an icon there but when going to the properties it shows a compatibility option and the link in fact points to the desktop. Is anyone else suffering from this? I can get around it by creating a new user profile and deleting the previous one BUT each time I install an application I stand a 50:50 chance of it not being permanently on the desktop. Suggestions Microsoft? Cheers, Mark

So far once a new user is created I can manually place items on the desktop (send to) and they seem to "stick", however applications being installed are not able to place shortcuts on the desktop. Haven't gone so far as to remove (or restore back) SP1 just yet - want to see if someone has come up with the solution.

did you disable UAC? Try running an installer as a Administrator :) Rightclick the installer-> Run as an admin. Intresting if it works Good Luck :)Wanna know what will be a good pc to buy? Create your own ;)

This is not an SP1 problem for Windows 7 but rather an IE9 problem - do not install IE9 on my builds any longer and Windows 7 behaves as expected. My clients are advised NOT to install IE9 and to hide it in Windows update - since then we have had no problems.
