Windows 7 (&XP) Explorer incorrectly showing DFS hidden share info
I recently deployed Windows Server 2008 R2 and configured two DFS roots (one called DFS$ and one called IT$). When I browse the domain to see whether they are 'visible':
\\DOMAIN.NAME\
they do not show up. This is correct behaviour as far as I am concerned.
But when I map a drive letter to one of these shares, Windows Explorer is showing the name of the hidden share. This is surely INCORRECT. For example, I open Windows Explorer and I can see:
IT$ (\\DOMAIN.NAME) (Z:)
How can I turn off this display of hidden share information in Windows Explorer? I know we used to do this years ago with Windows XP and Server 2003 DFS and it hid the info correctly, but now I even see this sort of excessive information display in
Windows XP Explorer too!
