Windows 7 & server 2000 unable to resolve each others name
I have a win 7 laptop that is joined to the domain in a server 2003 AD enviroment. With in this enviroment we also have shares located on a server 2000. the win 7 computer can connect to the shares bia the IP address but is not able to do so with the servers name. also i noticed that the server is unable to resolve the name of the win 7 computer as well. the laptop is not having an issue with any of our server 2003 shares. it is only having this issue with the server 2000.

Hi, Based on my understanding, you can’t access a domain share on Windows Server 2000. Regarding the problem, I would like to suggest: 1. Please access the shared folder using \\ipaddress\folder. 2. Access the shared folder using server’s FQDN name \\server.mydomain.com\folder. 3. Run the following command: NET USE \\server\folder /u: mydomainname\myusername If any error message occurs, please let me know. Ok Here is how it went. 1, I Can access the share using the IP so this is being used as a work around at this point 2, i am notable to access the share using the FQDN as i get the error: "network address not availible" 3, i tried the command line that you asked me and received the error "system 53 error, the network path was not found."
