Windows 7 & connecting to a Windows Server 2003 R2 DCOM
Hello everybody, i have a little case scenario, which really starting to get on my nerves, reason been, i can't figure out what is wrong. I'll try and explain. I have an client application which test & connects to a remote DCOM based service, and if all steps pass successfully and writes down, the configuration (sort of like connection string data) into a local XML file, which is then parsed by another client application. The problem is - in years, the combination of "Windows XP Client Machine, using local-non-Domain account for normal work, but authenticating through cached Windows credentials, to a Windows Server 2003 / R2 used as a Domain Controller" has worked in the above case, flawlessly. The problem is that, couple of days ago, for a testing reasons, we decided to migrate couple of the machines to a Windows 7 Enterprise. When i store in Windows 7 credentials manager, once again, the information it had worked before, (like adding a mask *.MYDOMAIN and the using MYDOMAIN\User) it does works for every other networking service - like SMB, Mapped drives, etc. However, the Windows Server 2003 R2 we are using, and which configuration hasn't been changed in any ways, now denies my DCOM connections at all. Still the XP based Machines, continues to works. That's not the picture with these two Windows 7 Enterprise machines at all. the Distributed COM users group @ the Windows Server machine, has all the Domain users accounts, that needs do connect to it, into., no Firewall restrictions at all, no security restrictions. The Security event logs on both machines (the client one running Win 7 & the Server one) shows neither errors or warnings, but the Remote DCOM Launch & activation permissions are just somehow ignored from the server, when are initiated from the Win 7 .. What am i missing and/or doing wrong?

Hi, It appears this issue is related to the specific application; there are some differences between Windows XP and Windows 7, I suspect this application may not support Windows 7 well, therefore, it is recommended that you contact the support for this application for help. For developing related issues, you may also go to MSDN forum for help: MSDN Forums Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
