Windows 7 & Windows Mail
OK.. this should be a quick & simple problem for anyone who has made the jump to Windows 7 to answer, but I need to ask it anyway. When in the initial phase of my 7 upgrade I was greeted with the following message.Windows Mail is no longer included in Windows; however your e-mail files and settings will still be available after the upgrade. To send and receive e-mail you will need to install a new e-mail program. You can get e-mail programs from other software manufacturers or from the Microsoft website.Does this mean that Windows mail will no longer be available after I do the upgrade? ( I can hear the chorus of "well duuuhhhs! now.) Or will my existing copy of Windows Mail be there unscathed?I can live with an alternative client like Thunderbird, but certain female residents of my home may not be overly thrilled about any change. And as any married guy will testify - if the missus aint't happy - ain't nobody happy!

I'm just getting ready to install Win 7 so I'm no expert, but on the "What's New in Windows 7" page, I saw the following... Windows Live With Windows 7, some features previously included in the operating system are now available for download through Windows Live Essentials, a set of free applications available for your PC and supported by Windows 7. You can download Windows Live Messenger, Photo Gallery, Mail, Writer, Movie Maker, and more. With these great applications, you can improve your Windows experience, and benefit from faster delivery of these features and services. Here's the link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/whats-new.aspx Scroll down and select "Windows Live" on the left... Hope that helps.

Windows mail is no longer included in Windows 7 but the actual file with your messages/contacts etc are still there and can be imported to another mail program. Microsoft do indicate that Windows mail will run under Win 7 and you can download it from Microsoft's download site.

I hope they are going to publish a email porogram TOMORROW as they have messed up my life - I have a huge amount of accounts/emails/folders all organised and I did not know they would actually ditch Windows Mail in favour of Windows Live Mail which is a absolute rubbish.I already installed Linux on another Laptop and getting on with it.I think this may be the last straw and move away.ARE YOU GOING TO PUT WINDOWS MAIL BACK OR NOT ? I CANNOT WAIT FOR 3 days let alone MONTHS.VERY VERY ANGRY WITH IT.I already wasted many hours just to upgrade to W7 and now I giot this nice 'unexpected' surprise - what a MESS!
