Windows 7 & Proxy Server problems when using 3G card
Hello I have a lot of Windows 7 Ent and pro machines that are on a domain and can access the internet just fine via the corporate proxy server. when we however install a 3G usb card for the user to use when not on the corporate network the internet does not want to work until the user takes out the proxy server settings etc...in xp this was never needed. The 3G cards we load don't create a connection under the connection tab of internet options so i cant even set the proxy settings specifically to that 3G connection. The users are very frustrated and so am i. There must a very simple thing that i am missing somewhere along the line. Could you guys come up with some suggestions for me to try?

Most 3G card manufaturers and also a lot of pc manufacturers deliever some form of connection manager which lets you decide what network settings should be used based on profiles. What kind of 3G card and computers do you use?

Why dont you upgrade the firmware of the 3G device? See if that will help. You said you used the same 3G card on XP, I think you need to upgrade the Firmware.

i'm in South Africa and the 3G Card is a Vodafone type card. The laptops are all HP. It dont have to be a certian service provider, and it dont have to be all HP laptops, its the driver of the device that must be compatible with the operating system. :-p

I have the same problem with MTN in South Africa, I guess the old 3G cards were working like a dialup connection and the new one as a network connection. When the the proxy settings are enabled, the 3G does not connect to the internet. So when I use my laptop at work I'll have to enable proxy settings and disable when using 3G. This is annoying especially to ordinary users. As a workaround we use firefox when using 3G and IE at the office. I hope Microsoft will fix this.
