Windows 7/Vista Security change - Add TCP/IP Printer Port?
Hi,I have been running XP SP3 and have now moved to Windows 7 Enterprise. I have noted that I can now as a standard domain user, with no administrative privileges on the computer, add a printer specifying the creation of a new TCP/IP port!!I can also go in to Print Server properties and remove it! Has this been the case with Vista too?How/why has this been made possible and is it controllable??Is there a list of little changes like this that have been made?

I am in the process of going from XP SP3 device to Win 7 Ent and can't seem to get the printer to connect as Domain User. I can get the drivers to download but the printer port will not create. I can make it work if I do the "use local printer port" trick and name it \\server\shared_printer_name. How can I duplicate my previous functionality from the XP devices? The scenario I am seeking is that our users should be able to click "Add Printer" then find the printer in AD as a shared device. When they click the printer, it should install for them. How can I do this? Jimm
