Windows 7/Pro workstations (32 bit) cannot join Windows Server 2008R2/64bit domain controller.
In my office, when I try to add any Windows 7 Pro/32bit workstation to a Windows 2008r2/64bit domain controller, I recieve the following error message: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "dcs": An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve the DNS names in the target domain. For information about network troubleshooting, see Windows Help. ****this had been an open issue for several weeks now and I've yet to receive a reply that works. I have clients out there waiting and I need to know what to do. FYI: I am able to ping the server and even map to and used shared resources on it. Adding a Windows XP/Pro/32bit workstation is a piece of cake. It happens the way it is supposed to.

It would appear to be DNS issue for the domain - the fact you can ping the Domain Controller from the troublesome machine would be WINS or netbios picking up the computer name, but when the machine tries to find the SRV record for the domain controller its looking for the full DNS name ie DCS.domain.local (etc..). From the Windows 7 machines can you ping the full DNS suffix for your domain controller? Could you give an output of the ping as well as the ipconfig for the win7 machine and the domain controller.
