Windows 7....CPU spike, audio buzz, and latency spikes, all three related
I've been having this problem and have looked around the net for solutions but cant find any. My computer will randomly CPU spike regardless of what I'm doing, whether its gaming, watching youtube videos, or just being on the desktop. When the CPU spikes, the entire computer freezes up (including the mouse) for about a third of a second and the sound makes a loud distorted buzz when this happens. When I'm playing multiplayer games such as L4D2 I'll get huge latency spikes that go from the 50's to upper 700's. These lag spikes are also accompanied by the same cpu spikes and audio buzzing. I found a youtube video someone made and he seems tp have the same problem I do, so that you can get a better idea of what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNcB1D9seqc I've updated my audio drivers (RealTek HD audio) and reinstalled them several times and that did not work. Updating my GPU drivers also had no effect. I have not tried updating my BIOS yet because the updates changelog is very minor and mentions nothing related to my issue. I've checked my hardware temps and everything is fine there, the CPU stays at around 35-40C and the GPU is around 45C. I'm pretty sure theres no virus causing this, my computer is kept clean. It is getting worse though. Sometimes the buzzing cpu spikes will show up and my computer just cannot seem to recover from them and it becomes stuck in an endless loop of freezing up every 3-4 seconds untill I restart. These CPU spikes used to show up only once or twice a week but now they occur everytime I use the computer.

Hi, make a xperf trace or run LatencyMon [1] to diagnostic the DPC issues. Please upload the xperf etl file to your SkyDrive [2] and post a link here if LatencyMon doesn't help you to find the causing driver. I'll take a look at it. I can't upload the xperf trace to skydrive because the .etl file (77MB) is goes above skydrives upload limit (50mb). Can I just upload it somewhere else? Edit: Nevermind, it worked anyways: http://cid-aad9a3c7fd7eb1c2.office.live.com/self.aspx/New%20folder/DPC%5E_Interrupt.etl

The ekrnel and an unknown modul caused the spikes/drops: Total = 2810 for module ntoskrnl.exe Elapsed Time, > 512 usecs AND <= 1024 usecs, 4, or 0.14% Elapsed Time, > 1024 usecs AND <= 2048 usecs, 4, or 0.14% Elapsed Time, > 2048 usecs AND <= 4096 usecs, 7, or 0.25% Elapsed Time, > 4096 usecs AND <= 8192 usecs, 1, or 0.04% Total = 5187 for module "Unknown" Elapsed Time, > 512 usecs AND <= 1024 usecs, 1, or 0.02% Elapsed Time, > 1024 usecs AND <= 2048 usecs, 0, or 0.00% Elapsed Time, > 2048 usecs AND <= 4096 usecs, 1, or 0.02% Total, 5187 Install the Win7 Sp1 and try it again. Also update the BIOS and try a different power plan, because the function PpmPerfAction causes some CPU issues. Installed SP1 and updates the bios. Can you explain what you mean with the power plans, and that function?

Input “Select a power plan” in Search box and press Enter, you will see the power plan windows pop-up and you can change your power plan in it. Sorry for the delay. SP1 is installed and the BIOS has been updated. I've tried different power plans but that didn't work. I also noticed that all the problems disappear when I disable my wireless adapter (Linksys WMP600N). I've run a new trace but this time skydrive won't let me upload the new file because it's over the size limit. It didn't seem to mind last time though.

Have you updated the Linksys WMP600N driver? André"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? Hmm, not sure why I didn't think of that in the first place. Heres the uploaded zip file: http://cid-aad9a3c7fd7eb1c2.office.live.com/self.aspx/New%20folder/DPC%5E_Interrupt.zip I've tried several drivers with the adapter: the software it came with, the latest version from the actual website, Ralink drivers, and the default drivers that windows 7 seems to install with wireless adapters. I've also tried using a different adapter (WMP54GS) and I still had the same problems.

the trace says still no spikes. 128µs is the highest spike. Only chrome has some CPU usage spikes. Does it happen if you run the Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 with 2.83GHz and not with the 3.4GHz you run it currently? Bumping this thread because I have the exact same issue, and the exact same network adaptor as you (Linksys WMP600N). As soon as I disable the adaptor, the problem goes away (literally. If I'm getting spikes and disable the card, the spikes stop) Is anyone else getting the issue? Any other solutions?
