Windows 7- DNS Record not registering
Hello, In the last 5 months we just started adding Windows 7 Pro x86 computers to our Domain. We added about 12 computers and all of them are showing up in AD but two of the computers are not showing DNS Records. I try to register DNS on these computer using ipconfig /registerdns. I check DNS on the server about an hour later and there is still no record showing up. I can use nslookup and it shows the server and the address fine. These machines seems to be working fine, but I cannot ping or rd to any computer by name. We have been getting Event ID: 1014 Source: DNS Client Events on both of these computers Name resolution for the name abc.org timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded. Any help would be great, if you need more details let me know. Thank you !

Is there anything drastically different with those 2 computers as far as configuration from the other 10? It sounds like the firewall is blocking something. If you disable the firewall on these 2 machines then try and register does it work?

@Ang101 Thanks for the reply, I gave it a shot and turned the firewall off on both computers and did ipconfig /registerdns. I have checked for the Host A Record multiple times and still havent found anything for either computer

Under your group policy for your AD. Check the settings under Computer Management > Administrative Templates > Network > Network Connections > Windows Firewall > and on domain profile we have Allow remote admiin exception enabled. and allow ICMP exceptions enabled with allow unsoliceted incoming messages from...and then the subnet of our main ip as 10.2.3.0/24 (just as an example.) And under Standard profile we have the same settings enabled We had to do this on our network for Spiceworks to work and also RD. you will need to run gpupdate /force on the machines to have it apply.
